Ipswich Town vs Reading Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the middle third of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Ipswich will aim to bounce back after a suffering 2-0 loss to Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium last time out. The Tractor Boys can have few complaints about the result that ended a two-game winning run. Reading continued their good form with a 2-2 draw at home to Cardiff on Monday evening. The Royals will be frustrated though that they did not hold on for all three after taking the lead through Mo Barrow and an own-goal. The meetings between these sides last season saw a 2-2 draw at Portman Road and the Royals winning 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium. Gareth McCleary has netted in two of their last three head-to-heads though is an injury doubt here.

Betting Tips and Predictions

This looks a hard game to call between a team that are tough to beat at their own ground and a visiting side in good form. The sensible play then is to stick with the goals market and with five of the last for six Ipswich at Portman Road going over 2.5 goals and the last four on the road for Reading doing the same this looks worth backing. Another bet I like is an anytime scorer on Mo Barrow who has three in his last three for the Royals and has the kind of pace that could worry an Ipswich backline who have kept just one clean sheet in their last six at home.

Ipswich Town Preview

It has been a mixed bag for the Tractor Boys in their last six with two victories, two draws and two defeats. They sat ninth going into this round of fixtures five points behind the play-off places At Portman Road, they have been in good form with two victories and a draw from their last three fixtures. Each of the last three and five of their last six in front of their own fans have gone over 2.5 goals. None of their last four and just two of their last seven have seen both teams find the back of the net. Just 31% of the goals the Suffolk outfit have netted this season have come in the first-half.

Ipswich Town Team News

David McGoldrick (groin), Tom Adeyemi (hamstring), Tommy Smith (calf), Luke Hyam and Andre Dozzell (both knee problems) are all set to miss out.

Reading Preview

It is now five undefeated for the Royals and just one defeat in eight which has allowed them to climb up the table. They are now in 14th and with this just one of two they play against top-half sides in their next eight they could continue to rise. Away from the Madejski Stadium, they have won three of their last five which includes victories at Leeds and Derby. Each of their last four on their travels has seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals. Mo Barrow is in good scoring form with three in his last three and six for the season in the league. In each of their last three matches Reading have netted just the opening goal but the opening two goals.

Reading Team News

Callum Harriott, John Swift, Tennai Watson (all hamstring), George Evans (thigh), Sam Smith, Stephen Quinn, Joe Mendes (all knee) and Gareth McCleary (groin) are doubts. Jordan Obita (cruciate) is out for the season.
