Ipswich Town vs Preston North End Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture pits two sides who started the season well but have seen their form drop off a little. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Ipswich continued their recent run of poor form by going down 3-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium in midweek. A 90th Bersant Celina goal (his second in two games) was all they had to show in a game that they can have few complaints about the result of. Preston continued their slump as they suffered a third straight defeat going down 2-0 at home to Aston Villa in midweek. The home side barely managed to create a goalscoring opportunity as the early signs of promise under Alex Neil seems to be tailing off. The Tractor Boys took four points off the Lillywhites last season and are unbeaten in their last four meetings. The Suffolk won their home game 1-0 and then conceded an 89th minute equalizer in their battle at Deepdale which ended 1-1.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Ipswich are struggling right now but they should not be as big as they are against a Preston side who have only three fit defenders and are also in poor form. Town have won four of seven at home and the three defeats came against Norwich, Fulham and Bristol City sides I have rated higher than Preston. I would take the safety blanket of the draw no bet market as they are struggling a little for goals. I would be a lot more confident of backing Town if Mick McCarthy did not seem to be determined to cut his nose off to spite his face when it comes to Bersant Celina. He always looks a threat off the bench and gives them a more creative edge. I think he can score here but a lot depends on if he plays so take him to score at any time but if he comes off the bench back him to be the last goalscorer as he has been in his last two.

Ipswich draw no bet market

Bersant Celina to score at any time.

Ipswich Town Preview

It is now four defeats in the last five for the Tractor Boys and three victories from the last 11 in all competitions. They have dropped down to 11th in the table though none of their next three are against sides in the top nine. At Portman Road, they have lost their last two but have won more than they have lost with four of seven this season. Just two of seven in front of their own fans has seen both teams find the back of the net. The 23 goals they have scored is the joint fourth highest in the division although they have netted just three times in the last four. They 22 they have shipped gives them the seventh worst defensive record in the division and 14 of them have come in their last seven which is an average of two per fixture.

Ipswich Town Team News

Emyr Huws (Achilles) is closing in on a return while Andre Dozzell (knee) is a long-term absentee.

Preston North End Preview

It is now three straight defeats and no victory in five for the Lillywhites who are starting to slide back down the table. They face three of their next four on the road including two trips to East Anglia. Away from Deepdale, they have lost just one of the last five and that came against leaders Wolves. Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals has been a feature of these road trips having happened in each of their last four. Their last four matches have seen a total of eight goals netted in the last thirty minutes. Each of their last four have seen both teams find the back of the net and has gone over 2.5 goals.

Preston North End Team News

Alex Neil has huge injury issues as Tom Clarke, Greg Cunningham, Ben Davies, Tommy Spurr, Marnick Vermijl, Calum Woods and Josh Earl (both knee) are out while Paul Huntington is suspended.
