Ipswich Town vs Norwich City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Sunday lunchtime (12:00) game is an East-Anglian derby between two sides in the top half of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Ipswich will be looking to bounce back after suffering a second successive defeat going down 1-0 at Sheffield United. Town were probably a little unlucky to lose to the Blades but they have had their fair share of luck already this season. The Canaries managed to rescue a point with a goal deep into injury time in their previous game. They looked like going down to ten-men Hull but their perseverance paid off as they claimed a point Both meetings between the pair ended 1-1 last season with Jonas Knudsen a surprising scorer in each of them. Norwich have gone unbeaten on their last four visits to Portman Road.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The Canaries are the favourites here and although they are the side in form I think an extensive injury list provides the cautionary note you need not to get involved as their bench last time out featured three defenders and an under 23 prospect who has yet to play for the first team. Under 2.5 goals is the outsider of the two but this looks the way to play the game as this would have happened in four of six at Portman Road this season and each of their last three on the road for Norwich. Given the fact he netted in both games last season it might just be worth a small interest that Jonas Knudsen nets here. Chances are that this is just a freak statistic but at these prices it might be worth a small interest on a player who has yet to score but has registered four assists for the season.

Ipswich Town Preview

The Tractor Boys have lost each of their last two and four of the last six and have slide down the table to tenth. Three of their next four will come against teams in the top eight of the league. At Portman Road, their form has been strong with four victories and two defeats from six played. Their games in front of their own fans have produced goals with these six creating a total of 18 which is an average of three per match. After struggling for goals last season Town are now the joint third top scorers in the Championship this time out. They do not start games well though and if the table was decided on the first 45 minutes they would be as low as 21st.

Ipswich Town Team News

Emyr Huws is still a problem with an Achilles issue.

Norwich City Preview

The Canaries continued their strong form and are now eight unbeaten in all competitions taking 15 points from the last 21 available to them. This is one of two they have in the next six against teams in the top ten which means they should be looking to put more points on the board. Away from Carrow Road, it has been three straight victories seeing off Reading, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United. These three matches have produced a total of just five goals with the East Anglian outfit netting four of them. Norwich are the form defence in the division having conceded just two goals in their last six games. Just 33% of their goals have come in the first-half and none in the 15 minutes just before the interval.

Norwich City Team News

The Canaries have an extensive injury list with Steven Naismith (groin) and Josh Murphy (broken toe) closest to a return. Certain to miss the game are Marley Watkins (suspended), Matt Jarvis and Alex Pritchard (both ankle), Alex Tettey (calf), Louis Thompson (Achilles) and Jamal Lewis (knee).
