Ipswich Town vs Newcastle United Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Monday afternoon (15:00) tie features two teams at opposite ends of the table as high-flying Newcastle travel to struggling Ipswich. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

It is Newcastle who have dominated the recent meetings between the pair with five victories from the last seven with Ipswich winning one and the other ending all square. The last meeting between the duo came in October and the Magpies coasted to a 3-0 victory. Ayoze Perez was the hero that day with a brace while Matt Ritchie grabbed the other goal.

The Suffolk side recorded their second victory in three games as they defeated Burton 2-1 last time out thanks to a Luke Varney own goal and a Freddie Sears strike.

The Magpies look on course for three points in their fixture with Leeds thanks to a Jamaal Lascelles 67th minute strike however they switched off at the end and allowed Chris Wood to get a goal that rescued a point for United.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I think the odds and the gulf in class between the two sides mean Newcastle look the bet here. They are up against an Ipswich side with just four wins all year and three of those came against bottom half sides. The Magpies are the best away side in the league with 13 victories from their 21 away fixtures.

Jamaal Lascelles was a huge physical presence in their game with Leeds registering a remarkable seven shots for a defender and grabbing a goal.  I think he looks a worth play here as Newcastle will continue to target him with crosses and set-pieces.

Ipswich Preview

Two victories from their last three games has secured Championship football for Ipswich for another season. They currently sit in 15th seven places and nine points above Blackburn with just four games to play.

At Portman Road, it is six unbeaten for Town and just one defeat in ten in all competitions. Drawing games has been a huge feature for the Suffolk side with five of their last six in front of their own fans ending all-square.

Just one of the last five Ipswich home games have gone over 2.5 goals. Seven of their last nine in all competitions at Portman Road has seen both teams find the back of the net. Five of their last seven goals have come in the final 45 minutes of matches.

Newcastle Preview

It is now just two victories from their last seven for Newcastle and they have lost ground to Brighton at the top of the table. Winning the Championship will not matter much as long as they are in the Premier League next season and they still need seven more points to be sure of this.

The Magpies have the best away record in the division with 13 victories from 21 away fixtures. In their last seven on the road they have registered three victories, three draws and just one defeat which came against Sheffield Wednesday.

Just two of their last five have gone over 2.5 goals and just one of their last three on the road. The Magpies have kept a clean sheet in just three of their last ten at all grounds. They have scored a goal in the final ten minutes of four of their last six away ties.
