Ipswich Town vs Millwall Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This New Year’s Day fixture (15:00 kick-off), is an important one at the bottom of the Championship table as it features the side in 24th hosting the team in 20th.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Ipswich made it back-to-back defeats and stretched their winless run to three with a 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough. They can have few complaints about the result as the Teesiders controlled the match.

Millwall made it back-to-back 1-0 home wins over the festive period as this time out they saw off Nottingham Forest. A Ryan Tunnicliffe goal proved the difference to give them a deserved three points.

The reverse fixture came on October 27th at the Den and the Lions eased home that day 3-0 with a brace from Lee Gregory and one from Ryan Leonard. The London outfit controlled things and restricted Town to a single chance.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Millwall will be a popular bet here but given they have yet to win away from home I could not be bringing myself to back them. Ipswich have beaten Wigan and draw with Sheff U and Preston in recent times so if they are to do anything it will come at home.

I think this could be a cautious affair early on as both teams know how important it is to win this game. I will therefore say the game will have no early goal (set at 32:00) and that the second-half wlll be the highest scoring 45 minutes.

NO goal before 32:00

Second 45 minutes to be the highest scoring half

Ipswich Town Preview

Just six points from their last 13 means that the Tractor Boys have found themselves bottom of the table five off the side in second bottom. They need a ton of new players in January but it is questionable what kind of quality they could attract given their situation.

At Portman Road, the Suffolk outfit are unbeaten in their last two though have won just once this season. Freddie Sears has netted four time in his last five appearances at his own ground.

Each of the last three and five of the last six Ipswich have played in the league have seen a total of two or three goals. Both teams to score has happened in just one of their last six with Town failing to net in four of these.

Ipswich Town Team News

Jon Walters, Tom Adeyami (both Achilles), Tayo Edun (eye), Cole Skuse and Emyr Huws (both knee) are long-term absentees. Grant Ward (cruciate) has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Millwall Preview

Six points over Christmas has been big for the Lions and has moved them into 20th and put three points between them and 22nd. A goalscorer should be a target in Jnauary as Lee Gregory (seven) is their only player to have more than four goals.

Away from the Den, the London side are still seeking their first win of the campaign through this represents their best opportunity. Their last six goals on the road have all come from different scorers.

Millwall have seen none of their last three feature both teams scoring with them keeping two of those three clean sheets. Each of their last three have ended 1-0 and six of their last eight have gone under 2.5 goals.

Millwall Team News

Shaun Williams (ankle) is a doubt while Tom Bradshaw (knee) will miss the rest of the season.
