Ipswich Town vs Middlesbrough Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) fixture features two sides at opposite ends of the Championship table and is live on Sky Sports.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Ipswich drew their third straight game with a 2-2 finish at Birmingham though having been two up at half-time they would have hoped for more.  They were battered by the Blues in the second-half and were grateful to early strikes from Jon Nolan and Matt Pennington.

Middlesbrough also made it back-to-back draws as it ended 1-1 in their road trip to Hull with Britt Assombalonga getting their goal.  The draw was a fair reflection on a game with little to choose between the sides.

The two meetings between these sides last season saw the Teesiders take four points with a 2-2 draw in Suffolk and a 2-0 home success.  In fact, Boro are unbeaten in their last five battles with the Tractor Boys.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Ipswich have drawn five of five at home and Middlesbrough three of five on the road and at the prices I could not put anyone off backing the game to end all-square.

A bet I prefer is the game to be level going into the break as has happened in six of ten for the Suffolk outfit and five of ten for the Teesiders.  In addition, oppose the game having an early goal which is set at 33:00.

Ipswich Town Preview

The Tractor Boys are still searching for the first win of the season but performances have improved and they have drawn four of their last five.  They sit 22nd in the table though three of their next four are against teams in the top eight.

At Portman Road, it is played five drawn five with four of these seeing both teams finding the back of the net.  Four of these five have seen at least one goal netted in the final 20 minutes.

Ipswich are ranked 21st in goals per fixture averaging 2.2 with seven of these ten going under 2.5 goals.  Five of these have averaged exactly two goals while four of their last six have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Ipswich Town Team News

Jon Walters (Achilles), Freddie Sears (groin), Emyr Huws, Andre Dozzell (both knee) and Teddy Bishop (hamstring) are long-term absentees.  Matthew Pennington is suspended for one fixture following his dismissal last time out for two yellow cards.

Middlesbrough Preview

The Teesiders are keeping the pace with the top sides but a run of just one win in five is keeping them from the top.  They sit third with 19 points and have four in a row against teams outside the top ten.

Away from the Riverside Stadium, it has been a mixed bag with one victory, three draws and one defeat.  After a 2-2 opening road trip they have seen just five goals netted in their last four.

Middlesbrough are the dullest team for neutrals as they average just 1.6 goal per fixture which is the lowest in the division.  Eight of their ten have gone under 2.5 goals with five going under 1.5.
