Ipswich Town vs Middlesbrough Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Sunday afternoon (12:30) fixture features two sides with different motives for winning their final fixture.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Ipswich looked to be headed for the beach under a caretaker manager but ran rampant with a 4-0 win at Reading.  Martyn Waghorn, Jordan Spence, Freddie Sears and Callum Connolly all grabbed a goal each as Town kept alive their hopes of finishing above Norwich.

Middlesbrough confirmed their place in the end of season play-offs with a victory over Millwall.  Britt Assombalonga and Jonny Howson netted a goal in each half to give the Teesiders a deserved three points.

The reverse fixture came in December and Boro won that one 2-0 with a goal each from Martin Braithwaite and Patrick Bamford.  It extended their unbeaten head-to-head record against the Suffolk outfit to four matches.

Betting Tips and Predictions

This is a hard game to call because Ipswich could be motivated to finish above Norwich or maybe they are not.  Middlesbrough could be motivated to make sure they finish fifth or maybe they are not. With those things being said then I could not really advise you to bet one way or another on the result.

I think the best approach is a couple of anytime scorer bets with Martyn Waghorn for the home side having bagged three in his last six he makes sense while for the visitors Britt Assombalonga who is a confidence player has two in his last two.

Ipswich Town Preview

The Tractor Boys sit in 13th place and crucially one point behind their East Anglian rivals Norwich City.  It remains to be seen if this offers motivation to the managerless side to put in a performance on the final day.

At Portman Road, they have struggled of late winning just one of their last eight in front of their own fans.  The goals have dried up at home with six blanks from eight at their own ground and just five netted in their last 12 in all competitions.

Martyn Waghorn with 15 goals and Joe Garner with ten have been their top goalscorers this season.  Ipswich are slow starters with just 16% of their goals in the opening 30 minutes and 27% coming in the first-half.

Ipswich Town Team News

Cole Skuse (illness), Luke Hyam, Mustapha Carayol, Cameron Carter-Vickers (all unknown), Dominic Iorfa (thigh), Tom Adeyemi, Teddy Bishop (all hamstring), Dean Gerken (hip), Luke Chambers (rib), David McGoldrick (groin), Joe Garner (skull), Emyr Huws and Andre Dozzell (both knee) are unlikely to feature again this season.  Grant Ward will miss the game through suspension.

Middlesbrough Preview

Three straight victories and four in their last five has confirmed Boro a top-six spot at the end of the season.  They currently sit in fifth and cannot climb higher though they could drop to six with defeat, a Derby victory and a three-goal swing.

Away from the Riverside Stadium, they have won just eight times this season, drawing six and losing eight.  They have lost just one of their last six on the road, winning two of these and drawing three times.

Middlesbrough have the joint-seventh best attacking record this season and the joint-fourth best defensive record.  Britt Assombalonga leads them for goals this campaign with 15 while Patrick Bamford has ten.

Middlesbrough Team News

Rudy Gestede (broken ankle) is unlikely to be fit for the play-offs.
