Ipswich Town vs Leeds United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the top-half of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Ipswich were eliminated from the FA Cup in the Third Round by fellow Championship side Sheffield United who beat them 1-0 at Portman Road. The Suffolk side lost their last league game going down 4-1 at Fulham despite Joe Garner putting them ahead a Jordan Spence red-card turned the match around. Leeds were also knocked out of the cup as they suffered a 2-1 road loss to League Two side Newport despite taking a ninth minute lead through Gaetano Beradi in a match that also saw them have Samuel Saiz dismissed. The reverse fixture came in September at Elland Road and United won an entertaining battle 3-2. Pierre Michel Lassoga, Kalvin Phillips and an own-goal saw the home side through despite David McGoldrick and Joe Garner netting for the visitors.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Leeds are the favourites to win the game but given recent defeats at Newport and Birmingham I could not be backing them especially as Ipswich are tough to beat at home. The Tractor Boys are out of form themselves so I would not be siding with them either so the match markets should be swerved. Both teams are struggling for goals recently with the hosts netting just four in their last six and the visitors just four in their last five and none in their last two. Backing the game to have no early goal at 32:00 looks wise as does backing the match to be without a score going into the interval.

Ipswich Town Preview

It was a tough holiday period for the Tractor Boys who picked up just one point from their four games. They sit in 12th place seven away from the play-offs and with three of their next five against teams in the bottom six they need to start picking up points if they don’t want to be stuck in mid-table. At Portman Road, they have lost just one of their last six winning three of these and drawing the other two. The 23 goals they have scored at the own ground gives them the joint-third best home rank in the division. A lack of goals has been an issue for Ipswich recently with just four in their last six in the league with blanks in three of these. 30 of the 39 league goals they have scored have been shared amongst four players and Town could do with someone else helping.

Ipswich Town Team News

Jordan Spence will miss the game through suspension while Emyr Huws is out for the season with a knee injury. Grant Ward (groin) and Adam Webster (Achilles) are rated doubtful.

Leeds United Preview

It was a mixed set of results for United over the holiday period with two victories, one draw and one defeat. The Yorkshire outfit are now in sixth place occupying the final play-off spot but will not have given up on making second which they are just six points behind. Away from Elland Road, they have four victories and four defeats from their last eight in the league. The 20 goals they have scored on the road means they have the joint-third best ranked road attack in the division. Goals have been scarce in recent Leeds matches with the last five in the league producing a total of just six. Pablo Hernandez has four for the season and two of those have come in the last four in the Championship.

Leeds United Team News

Samuel Saiz will miss the first of a six-game suspension following a spitting incident in the game with Newport. Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling (both ankle) and Ronaldo Vieira (knock) are doubts.
