Ipswich Town vs Fulham Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Saturday afternoon game (15:00) from Portman Road features one side who have started the season surprisingly well and one surprisingly poorly. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Ipswich made it four victories from four league games as they saw off Brentford 2-0 in their last league game with a goal each from Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner. In the League Cup, they did suffer a defeat but this was against Premier League opposition as a late Bersant Celina goal was just a consolation in their 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace.

Fulham suffered a disappointing week as they went down 1-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday in the league. This was also the same scoreline in midweek when they suffered a League Cup loss to Bristol Rovers.

The London outfit won both meetings between the pair last season winning 3-1 at Craven Cottage and 2-0 at Portman Road. In the match at East Anglia the visitors netted a goal in each half to secure all three points.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The match markets are a strange one if you are not paying attention to the statistics. Ipswich are heavy outsiders despite four victories from four games and then you realise the Suffolk side are where they are because of a 9 from 11 conversion rate that seems impossible to maintain.

Under 2.5 goals seems a safer play as you have an Ipswich side who are scoring far more than they are really creating against a Fulham side who are not really creating much, this seems a generous bet then.  In addition, take a play on NO in the both teams to score market which looks priced too high.

Ipswich Town Preview

Mick McCarthy was a man under pressure at the start of the season yet they have produced a remarkable four victories. What makes it more remarkable is that they have scored nine goals from 11 shots on target will surely drop off to normal rates soon.

At home, it has been two victories, three goals scored and two clean sheets kept from two matches so far. A feature of games at Portman Road is under 2.5 goals with just two of their last nine going over this mark.

Martyn Waghorn has netted four times this season in the Championship while Joe Garner has three to his name. Three of the four league goals that the Tractor Boys have conceded this season have come in the first 45 minutes.

Ipswich Town Team News

Emyr Huws (Achilles) is back in training.

Fulham Preview

It is four without a victory for the side many were tipping to challenge for the title and while three of those have been draws it has not been an ideal start for the Cottagers. They now face back-to-back matches against the only sides to have made 100% starts so far.

On the road, they have drawn two this season with points at the Madejski and Elland Road no disgrace. Last season four of their last five away fixtures went over 2.5 goals but this season their two league trips have produced a total of just two goals.

Just one of the four they have played this season has seen a goal in the first 45 minutes and the other four have come in the final 30.  Lucas Piazon is their only player to score this season (the other league goal was an own-goal) and they need someone to step forward and help them out with goals.

Fulham Team News

Lucas Piazon will miss out with a broken leg.
