Ipswich Town vs Derby County Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday (30th) afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the top-half of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Ipswich were held at home by QPR on Boxing Day in a game that ended without a goal. Town were a little lucky to claim a point if you look at the expected goals data from the match. Derby were also held to a goalless draw in their last game as they came out of the KC Stadium with a point. Hull were the better team in that game against a strangely flat Rams outfit. The reverse fixture came in November at the iPro Stadium in a game that had been re-arranged from September. Callum Connolly netted the winner for the Suffolk side to continue a trend that has seen the away team win their last six meetings.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The match markets make Derby the favourite and while I can see the sense in this I am unwilling to take on an Ipswich outfit who have lost just three times in front of their own fans this season. Both these sides were involved in goalless draws on Boxing Day but given that they are both in the top six divisional scorers this season I am surprised to see over 2.5 goals the outsider of the two markets and as such would recommend taking it. Both teams to score also looks worth taking while you could also consider combining the two in a bet.

Ipswich Town Preview

It has been a mixed bag for the Tractor Boys in their last nine with three victories, three draws and three defeats. They sit in tenth place which is just five points behind the sixth spot and the play-offs which is currently occupied by Sheffield United. At Portman Road, they are unbeaten in their last five winning three of these and drawing the other two. Callum Connolly has netted in two of the last three at home and three in six at all grounds. Ipswich are the third most entertaining team in the division for neutrals with an average of 2.92 goals per fixture. The Suffolk side are not strong starters and have only been ahead at half-time in six of their 24 this season.

Ipswich Town Team News

Teddy Bishop (unknown), Cole Skuse (knee), Tom Adeyemi (hamstring), Dean Gerken and Tristan Nydam (both hip) are doubts. Luke Hyam (knee) is out for a few months while Andre Dozzell and Emyr Huws (both knee) are out for the season.

Derby County Preview

A draw last time out put to an end a four-game winning run for the Rams but they have still lost just one of their last nine. They are down to fourth but are just two behind second and still in the hunt for that automatic promotion spot behind Wolves. Away from the iPro Stadium, they are unbeaten in their last eight winning four of these and drawing the other four. They have kept clean-sheets in their last three on their travels and conceded just four times in their last eight away ties. None of their last eight games has seen both teams find the back of the net though three of these have gone over 2.5 goals. The Rams have hit three goals in three of their last seven fixtures.

Derby County Team News

Kyle McAllister (groin) is a few weeks away from a return otherwise the Rams have a fully fit squad to choose from.
