Ipswich Town vs Cardiff City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Wednesday evening (19:45) fixture features two sides in the top half of the table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Ipswich will be disappointed with a draw at their East Anglian rivals Norwich as they conceded an equalizer deep into injury time. The Tractor Boys seemed on course for all three points when Luke Chambers put them ahead in the 89th minute. Cardiff come into the game with back-to-back victories including a 1-0 home defeat of Middlesbrough last time out. Sean Morrison got the goal in the 33rd minute to give the Bluebirds a deserved three points. The reverse fixture came at the end of October (31st) and the Welsh side won that one 3-1 to stretch their unbeaten run against the Tractor Boys to five meetings. Junior Hoilett, Omar Bogle and Danny Ward netted for the hosts while Bersant Celina netted a consolation for Town.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to know what frame of mind Ipswich will be in after missing out on victory over Norwich deep into stoppage time. They have though lost just five times at Portman Road this season and I could not be backing Cardiff at the odds offered. Eight of 16 the Tractor Boys have played and ten of 16 for the Bluebirds on the road have been level at half-time and this looks the way to play it with an interest on the correct scoreline at the break being goalless.

Ipswich Town Preview

It is now three unbeaten for Town and just one defeat in their last six with each of their last two finishing all-square. They were in 11th place ahead of the midweek action with four of their next six against teams above them in the table. At Portman Road, they have won just one of their last five netting just two goals in these matches. 27 of the 45 points they have picked up this season have come in front of their own fans. None of the last six Ipswich league games and just two of the last 12 have gone over 2.5 goals. Just 33% of the goals they have scored have come in the first-half with around 40% in the final 30 minutes.

Ipswich Town Team News

Tristan Nydam (illness) is rated doubtful. Tom Adeyemi, Teddy Bishop (both hamstring), Dean Gerken (hip), Emyr Huws and Andre Dozzell (both knee) are long-term absentees.

Cardiff City Preview

The Bluebirds have gone six games unbeaten a run that has allowed them to climb into second in the table and in an automatic promotion spot. They were two points ahead of Aston Villa in third and three ahead of Derby in fourth ahead of the midweek matches. Away from the Cardiff City Stadium, they have won just one of their last six league fixtures though three of these ended all-square. Four of their last six on the road has seen both teams find the back of the net. Just one of the last five Cardiff have played in the Championship have gone over 2.5 goals with two going under 1.5. Around 60% of their goals have come in the second-half with 29% in the last 15 minutes.

Cardiff City Team News

Gary Madine (broken nose), Kadeem Harris (unknown), Jamie Ward (unknown), Danny Ward (knee), Aron Gunnarsson (ankle), Craig Bryson (Achilles) and Matt Connolly (muscle) are doubts.
