Ipswich Town vs Burton Albion Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) Championship fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Ipswich bounced back to winning ways with a 2-0 road victory at Sunderland though the expected goals data suggest they were quite fortunate. Town took a 35th minute through Joe Garner and then went two up with an Adam Matthews own-goal and that was the end of the scoring. Burton put up a spirited showing but still went down to their fourth straight league loss 3-2 away to Aston Villa. Albion netted through Liam Boyce and Ahmed El Mohamady own-goal and would feel their performance did enough to merit a point. The reverse fixture came at the end of October at the Pirelli Stadium in a game that Town won 2-1. Ben Turner had given the Brewers the lead but the Tractor Boys claimed victory through a goal each from Martyn Waghorn and Bersant Celina.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The Brewers have won their last four at bottom-half sides and although Ipswich are technically in the top-half in 12th they are beatable at their own ground with QPR and Sheffield Wednesday having avoided defeat here in recent months. I will take Burton and the draw here in the double chance market especially given the distracting rumours linking Mick McCarthy with the Barnsley job this week. Over 2.5 goals also looks a runner here as the last six Albion matches have gone not just over this mark but over 3.5.

Ipswich Town Preview

The Tractor Boys have had a mixed bag of results recently with two victories, two defeats and one draw from their last five in the league. They sit in 12th place and are eight points outside of the play-off places. At Portman Road, they have struggled of late taking just four points from their last five fixtures. These matches tend to be low-scoring with the last five in front of their own fans producing a total of just six goals. None of the last five Ipswich games have played in the Championship and just two of their last nine have gone over 2.5 goals. Just 18 of the 43 league goals they have scored have come in the opening 45 minutes.

Ipswich Town Team News

Dean Gerken (hip) and David McGoldrick (unknown) are rated doubtful. Tom Adeyemi, Teddy Bishop (both hamstring), Emyr Huws and Andre Dozzell (both knee) are long-term absentees.

Burton Albion Preview

It is now four straight league defeats for the Brewers who sit bottom of the Championship table. They can take heart from how they played against Villa and that none of their next four are against a side in the top ten. Away from the Pirelli Stadium, they have lost their last two but both came against top five opponents. They have won each of their last four on the road against teams in the bottom-half. Each of the last five Burton league games have gone over 2.5 goals and have produced a total of 22 goals. Their last two meetings with Ipswich have ended in 2-1 defeats with the other ending 2-0 to the Suffolk outfit.

Burton Albion Team News

Darren Bent (knock) is a doubt while Willie Miller (knee) is a long-term absentee for the Brewers.
