Ipswich Town vs Bristol City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features two sides who have emerged as surprising promotion candidates. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Ipswich were rampant in midweek hitting five past Sunderland but not for the first time this season they seemed to net everything they hit. The goals were spread around the team with one each from Martyn Waghorn, Jordan Spence, Bersant Celina, David McGoldrick and Grant Ward. Bristol City continued their recent form with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Bolton in midweek. The Robins were presented with few problems and a goal each from Famara Diedhiou and Aden Flint enabled them to take all three points. The game at Portman Road last season ended 2-1 to the Tractor Boys thanks to a goal from Kevin Bru and Brett Pitman with Tammy Abraham netting for the Robins. It put to an end a mini hoodoo that saw the Suffolk side go five in a row without beating City.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Ipswich have not convinced me this season as they seem to be winning games they should not be winning or facing teams just as they are in the midst of a slump or a crisis or just not good teams. That is why they are the outsiders to win here against Bristol City despite results and that is why I will skip the match markets. Under 2.5 goals feels the best way to get involved on this game as it has happened in four of the five at Portman Road this season while five of the last seven for the Robins have also gone under. Famara Diedhiou is no longer value in the scorer markets and the same can be said of Aden Flint but this is good news for Bobby Reid who seems to have been pushed out despite six for the season and three in five on the road.

Ipswich Town Preview

It is just two victories and three defeats from their last five league fixtures for Town but a strong start means they sit in a play-off slot. This marks the start of a tricky run with five of their next six against sides in the top-half. At home, it has been four victories and one defeat though just one of these five has come against a side in the top-half and that was a game they lost. The seven-goal thriller with Sunderland in midweek was the only one of their games at Portman Road to have gone over 2.5 goals this season. It is three goals in three matches for David McGoldrick while Martyn Waghorn has two in the last four in front of his own fans.  Around 68% of the goals they have score this season have come in the second-half and 32% in the 15 minutes after the interval.

Emyr Huws (Achilles) continues his recovery from injury.

Bristol City Preview

It is now ten unbeaten in all competitions for the Robins with eight of these matches coming in the league. A tendency to draw has stopped them climbing higher with five of the eight ending all-square. On the road, they are unbeaten in the last four with three of these ending in a draw. They have netted in four of their five road trips with the only time they failed to do so against a strong Canaries defence. It is four goals in the last five games for Famara Diedhiou though just one of these has come away from Ashton Gate. The Robins have been behind at the interval in just one of their ten this season.
