Ipswich Town vs Bolton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features two sides at opposite ends of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Ipswich did not have a game in midweek meaning they had extra-time to work on a performance after losing 2-1 at QPR in their previous match. They went two down with a goal either side of half-time and only had a late Bersant Celina effort as consolation. Bolton were in action in midweek and they suffered another defeat as they went down 1-0 at home to Sheffield United. The Trotters can consider themselves harshly done by as they lost despite seeing more of the ball and creating as many chances. These two sides were not in the same division last season so head-to-heads are hard to judge but for what it is worth Ipswich are unbeaten in their last eight meetings.  Six of their last seven clashes have gone under 2.5 goals.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I can see why Ipswich might appeal to some at the prices given how awful Bolton have been this season. The Tractor Boys though they have a lot more points they average a lower amount of shots on target per game so I don’t think there is much in quality between these two. 70% of the goals the Suffolk side have scored have come in the second-half and this is 75% for Wanderers so it might be worth a small interest on the second-half to be the highest scoring and that the first goal in the game will come after 31:00 minute.

Ipswich Town Preview

After a midweek off it is just six games for Ipswich but that is still enough to have them in seventh place.  After a strong start of four victories from four games, they have lost each of their last two though the shot data in their winning run did look unobtainable as they were scoring with almost every shot on target. At home, they have defeated Birmingham and Brentford though lost their last one in front of their own fans which was against Fulham.  A feature of these games is low-scoring with all three going under 2.5 goals and a total of just five goals being produced. Martyn Waghorn is their leading scorer this season with four goals though he has not netted in the last two. 70% of the goals Town have scored have come in the second-half with 40% coming in the fifteen minutes following the interval.

Emyr Huws (Achilles) is back in training.

Bolton Wanderers Preview

After seven games, it is just two points and a minus ten goal-difference for Bolton who sit bottom of the table. Each of their last four games have ended in defeat and they must wonder where that first win is coming from. On the road, they lost 4-0 at Hull but before that picked up useful draws at Millwall and Birmingham. You must go all the way back to May 2015 for the last time they won away in this division. They are struggling for goals this season with just four netted and Gary Madine has two of these. They are shipping them with 14 conceded from seven fixtures which is an average of two per game.

Bolton Wanderers Team News

Josh Vela (ankle), Sammy Ameobi (knee) and Will Buckley (unknown) are doubts.
