Ingolstadt vs FC Cologne Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Ingolstadt and FC Cologne will square off at the Audi-Sportpark on Saturday evening, with both sides looking to get back to winning ways in the Bundesliga. Ingolstadt were humiliated 5-2 on the road at Hoffenheim last time out despite the fact that they had a one-goal lead thanks to a first-half goal from Almog Cohen and an own-goal from Niklas Sule. On the other hand, FC Cologne were beaten 0-3 at home by the reigning champions Bayern Munich. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Ingolstadt are under big pressure to grab a victory in this one, but the bad news is that they are the worst home team in the division. Meanwhile, Koln are also going through a tough period at the moment, particularly on the road where they have suffered defeats in each of their last three away games. It’s a difficult one to call, but Koln have enough firepower within their squad to snatch at least one point from this trip.

Ingolstadt Preview

Ingolstadt’s form in this early part of the new year reads five defeats and two victories in their seven league outings after the winter break. They did well to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 three weeks ago, but they suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Borussia Moenchengladbach and Hoffenheim in their most recent two league fixtures. Their sloppy defence has been the main reason for Ingolstadt’s recent form in the Bundesliga, as they have conceded nine goals in their last four league games. However, their biggest problem throughout this Bundesliga campaign has been their inefficient attack, as Ingolstadt have only scored 21 goals in 23 league outings. Almog Cohen is their topscorer with just 4 goals under his belt, while Lukas Hinterseer and Dario Lezcano have bagged six goals and three assists between them. Ingolstadt still have chances to secure their Bundesliga status this season, as they are now second from the bottom with just five points behind safety. The bad news is that Ingolstadt are the worst home side in the division, having collected just eight points from their eleven home league fixtures. The positive thing is that Ingolstadt are unbeaten in their last three home meetings with FC Cologne in all competitions, registering two draws and one win in the process.

FC Cologne Preview

FC Cologne have also struggled recently, having lost four and draw one of their last five games across all competitions. Keeping the ball out of their own net has also been a problem for Cologne of late as they conceded at least two goals in four of their last five competitive fixtures. During this poor run of form, Koln were knocked out from the DFB Pokal Cup following a 2-0 defeat on the road at Hamburger SV. However, FC Cologne still find themselves in a respectable 7th position in the standings tied on 33 points with the 8th-placed Freiburg, just two points off the top six. Cologne’s performance throughout this Bundesliga campaign was largely based on their solid defence, as they only conceded 25 goals in 23 league outings so far this season. At the other end of the field, Koln managed a decent tally of 31 goals this season, including 17 from their star striker Anthony Modeste. Yuya Osako has also played a vital part in Cologne’s performances throughout the season, helping the team with a decent return of five goals and four assists in his 23 league appearances. Away from home, Cologne have suffered defeats in each of their last three games in all competitions, conceding at least two goals in each of these.
