Hull City vs Sunderland Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features two sides who are struggling a little since their relegation from the Premier League.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Hull lost out in Midweek at Craven Cottage going 2-1 to Fulham to continue a recent slump in form. Jarrod Bowen netted for the Tigers and with five for the season he continues to be their bright spot for this campaign. Sunderland are also out of form and they slumped to a third straight defeat in midweek losing 1-0 at home to Forest. The game looked to be headed for a draw until an ex Black Cat Daryl Murphy handed Forest three points they probably did not deserve. The North-Eastern outfit won both meetings in the Premier League last season winning 3-0 at the Stadium of Light and 2-0 at the KC Stadium. Both men have different managers in the dugout and only Billy Jones remains of the scorers so it is hard to read too much into these results.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Both sides are struggling for form and I would be struggling to side with any of them at the prices that are on offer. If Lewis Grabban, was certain to be fit I would maybe lean to the Black Cats but otherwise I worry where the goals come from. Jarrod Bowen looks the value call here as the Hull midfielder has been their leading light this season with five league goals and looks worth a play in the first goalscorer market and then with a small interest to net two or more.

Hull City Preview

After a strong start, Hull have dropped off and are now in 16th place which just seven points from their opening seven fixtures.  It is now successive defeats and four from their last five for the Yorkshire outfit. At home, they have won two hitting Bolton and Burton for four while losing a high-scoring battle with Wolves in the other. Goals are a feature at the KC Stadium with each of their last three going over 3.5 and producing a total of 14 goals. The average first time of the Tigers goals this season is the 32nd minute though this changes to the 15th minute for home games. The average first time of goals conceded this season is the 29th minute though it is just 19th minute at home.

Hull City Team News

Evandro (hamstring) and Ondrej Mazuch (knee) are close to returning while Moses Odujabo (broken kneecap), Ryan Mason (skull fracture), Aben Hernandez (achilles), Kevin Stewart (ankle) and Will Keane (cruciate) are all long-term absentees.

Sunderland Preview

It has been a tough start to life in the Championship for Sunderland who have taken just five points from their seven fixtures. After a strong beginning of five points from three they have since suffered four consecutive defeats. On the road, it has been a mixed bag with a victory over Norwich, a draw with Wednesday and a 3-0 loss to Barnsley. In two of these three games the Black Cats found the back of the net first and early (within the opening 30 minutes). Lewis Grabban has been the leading light for the North-Eastern side going forward netting three of their six league goals. They have conceded 11 goals this season and in away games their average time of the first goal they let in is the 50th minute.

Sunderland Team News

Duncan Watmore (cruciate) is back in training while Lamine Kone (groin), Josh Maja (knee), and Aiden McGeady (hamstring) are listed day-to-day. Lewis Grabban is out for an unknown period and Patrick McNair (cruciate) is also not due back any time soon.
