Hull City vs Sheffield Wednesday Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture is a Yorkshire derby and features the side in 13th hosting the team in 16th. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Hull will have been disappointed to go out of the FA Cup at the Third Round stage going down 2-1 at Millwall despite taking the lead through Jon Toral. In the league, they made it five straight wins with a 6-0 demolition job over Bolton with two for Kamil Grosicki and one each for Jarod Bowen, Evandro, Chris Martin and Nouha Dicko.

Sheffield Wednesday were held to a goalless draw last time out in the cup as they entertained Luton. In the Championship, they have drawn two straight including on January 1st when Steven Fletcher netted in a 1-1 draw at home to Birmingham.

The reverse fixture came on August 11th at Hillsborough and it ended honours even with a 1-1 draw. Fraizer Campbell put the Tigers ahead before a Fernando Forestieri penalty secured Wednesday a point that was a fair reflection of an open game.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Hull are the favourites to win the game and given their good form will be a popular bet that being said doubts over Campbell and Sheffield Wednesday showing improvements make this a game where the prices look fair.

Over 2.5 goals seems to be the way to play this given it has happened in three of the last four for the Tigers and two of the last four on the road for the Owls. I also will take an interest on the goals to come in the second-half and back it to go over 1.5 goals in the final 45 minutes.

Hull City Preview

The Tigers have won five straight games in the Championship and are unbeaten in eight to climb up to 13th. A few months ago they were in the relegation places and now are just seven points off the play-offs.

At the KC Stadium, the Yorkshire outfit have won three straight with a total of 11 netted in the process and just two conceded. Jarrod Bowen has three in his last two at home, Fraizer Campbell and Kamil Grosicki have two in the last three.

Will Keane has left Hull for Ipswich through the main concern will be keeping hold of their key attacking talents. Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki have been heavily linked with moves while Fraizer Campbell is another they need to keep.

Hull City Team News

Fraizer Campbell (hamstring) is a doubt while Angus MacDonald (calf) and James Weir (meniscus) are long-term absentees. Jackson Irvine will miss the next few weeks after leaving for the Asia Cup.

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

The Owls are now four unbeaten since sacking Jos Luhukay with Steve Bruce set to takeover in a few weeks following surgery. They sit in 16th place ten points from relegation and 11 points off the play-off spots.

Away from Hillsborough, Wednesday have taken four points from a trip to Middlesbrough and West Brom through had taken just one from their previous five. Three of their last six and eight of their last 12 on the road have seen both teams score.

Sheffield Wednesday are unlikely to make many moves in the transfer window as Steve Bruce will use the time to assess his squad. He might allow a few fringe players to leave on loan but that seems it.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News

Lucas Joao (unknown) and Fernando Forestieri (foot) are doubts while Kieran Lee (knee) and Gary Hooper (groin) are long-term absentees.
