Hull City vs Preston North End Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two of the three sides in the relegation spots in action. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Hull made it five without a victory (losing four of these) as they suffered a 1-0 road loss to Sheffield United just before the international break. The Tigers can have few complaints about the result in a game the Blades dominated.

Preston moved off the bottom of the table with their first victory since the opening day of the season with a 4-0 demolition of Wigan. Tom Barkhuizen, Callum Robinson, Paul Gallagher (penalty) and an own-goal gave them all three points which was deserved though the scoreline flattered them some.

The two meetings between these sides last season were both won by North-End by the same 2-1 scoreline. Jarrod Bowen netted in both of these encounters for the Tigers last season.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bookmakers are struggling to split the pair and while I believe that Preston are the most likely winners I would not be rushing to back a side who have picked up just one point on the road this campaign.

I like a couple of anytime goalscorer plays on this match starting with Jarrod Bowen who netted in both these fixtures last season. I also like a play on Preston midfielder Daniel Johnson who has three on the road this season in all competitions.

Hull City Preview

It looks to be a season of struggle ahead for Nigel Adkins and the Tigers who have just two wins, two draws and eight defeats from their opening 12 fixtures. They sit bottom of the table on eight points with four of their next five coming against bottom-half sides.

At the KC Stadium, they have struggled winning one, drawing one and losing four of their opening six. The Humberside outfit are among the three joint lowest scorers in the division at home netting just five times.

A lack of goals has been an issue for Hull this season with the joint-third lowest total of ten led by Jackson Irvine and Jarrod Bowen with three each. The defence has also shipped 19 times and has kept a clean sheet on just one occasion.

Hull City Team News

Frazier Campbell (groin), Angus MacDonald (calf), Jordy de Wijs (ankle), Ondrej Mazuch (knee), Evandro (hamstring) and James Weir (meniscus) are all doubts.

Preston North End Preview

The Lilywhites just missed out on the play-offs last season but have struggled this time with just two wins, three draws and seven defeats from their first 12. They are third bottom on nine points though have three of their next four against sides in the bottom six and will hope to use this to climb the table.

Away from Deepdale, they have picked up just one point losing five of the six played on the road. North-End (along with Rotherham) have shipped 14 goals on their travels which is the highest in the league.

Preston have not struggled for goals this season with the 18 they have netted the seventh highest in the division led by Callum Robinson who has four and three players have three. The defence has been the issue with the 24 conceded the highest in the division and means they are shipping an average of two per fixture.

Preston North End Team News

Ben Pearson is suspended while Michael Crowe (unknown), and Calum Woods hamstring) are doubts.  Billy Bodin and Josh Harrop (both cruciate) are long-term absentees.
