Hull City vs Preston North End Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) game features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Hull picked up a point their performance probably did not deserve from their trip to Reading at the weekend. They took an early lead through Frazier Campbell and held on before conceding an equalizer in the 87th minute. Preston were held to a goalless draw in their last game as Millwall proved stubborn opponents. The Lillywhites saw a lot more of the ball but struggled to create any scoring opportunities. The last time these sides met at Hull was in August 2015 and the Tigers won that game 2-0. The home team has won five of the last six times that these two have clashed.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I like Preston here as bookmakers seem to be pricing on reputation rather than performance. North-End have picked up draws at Leeds and Middlesbrough and they look capable of getting something out of this game so take them alongside the draw in the double chance market. Given that 66% of the goals Preston have scored this season have come in the second-half then it also looks worth a small interest on the second 45 minutes to be their highest scoring period.

Hull City Preview

It has not been an easy return to the Championship for Hull who have taken just nine points from their first nine fixtures. Their recent form has been poor with no victory in four though they have drawn their last two. At home, it is two victories, one draw and a defeat to Wolves, one word of caution though their opponents (Burton, Bolton and Sunderland) are among the weakest in the division. Three of four at the KC Stadium have gone over 2.5 goals with the one that did not still producing two goals. David Meyler and Jarrod Bowen have both netted two goals in their last three Championship home appearances. The Tigers are the joint-third highest home scorers with 15 goals netted in four matches.

Hull City Team News

Evandro (hamstring) and Kamil Grosicki (knock) are doubts while Moses Odubajo (broken knee cap), Abel Hernandez (Achilles), Kevin Stewart (ankle), Ryan Mason (skull fracture) and Will Keane (cruciate) are long-term absentees.

Preston North End Preview

It has been a strong start to the season for North-End who sit in fifth place with 16 points from their opening nine fixtures. They are now unbeaten in their last six league games drawing three of these. On the road, they have won at Birmingham, lost at Derby and picked up useful looking points at Middlesbrough and Leeds. Their last away match ended 3-1 but the three before that produced a total of just one goal. Republic of Ireland attacker Sean Maguire has found the back in two of his last four Preston appearances. 66% of their goals have come in the second-half with 55% coming in the final 30 minutes.

Preston North End Team News

Gregory Cunningham is a doubt with a knee injury.
