Hull City vs Middlesbrough Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) fixture features two sides who were relegated from the Premier League to the Championship last season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Hull saw their three-game unbeaten run come to end as they were defeated 3-2 by Nottingham Forest. The Tigers netted two goals in the last 15 minutes one through Jarrod Bowen and the other through Michael Hector but it was not enough to claim a point in a game the expected goals data says they deserved one from. Middlesbrough had too much for Reading at the weekend as they came out on top 2-0 at the Madejski Stadium. Grant Leadbitter and Britt Assombalonga got the goals in a much-deserved victory for the North-Easteners. This pair did battle in the Premier League last season with Hull winning at the KC Stadium 4-2 and Boro winning at their ground 1-0. It continues a trend that has seen the home team win each of their last eight league meetings.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bookmakers are having trouble splitting the pair and have these two priced at the same odds (at time of writing). If pushed I would lean to Middlesbrough but I think better bets are available than those in the match markets. I am surprised to see over 2.5 goals the outsider of the two here given the fact that games at the KC Stadium average over four per game. It is true Boro are not high scorers but netted two on the road themselves at the weekend and have the firepower to exploit an open game so take the overs. In addition, to the overs then take YES in the both teams to score market which has happened in six of seven at the KC Stadium while I could not put anyone off combining the two markets together

Hull City Preview

Defeat last time out put to an end a promising run of seven points from three games and means it is just two victories from their last nine. They sat 17th going into this round of fixtures with just one of their next four coming against a side in the top ten. At the KC Stadium, it has been a mixed set of results with three victories, one draw and three defeats. Six of these have seen both teams score while the 31 goals in front of their own fans means they average over four per game at the KC. Hull are the divisional top scorers with 26 goals netted though at the other end they have shipped 23 times which is the third worst record in the league. Just two of the last eight goals scored in games involving the Yorkshire side have come in the first-half.

Hull City Team News

The Tigers still have an extensive injury list with Evandro (hamstring), Moses Odubajo (broken kneecap), Abel Hernandez (Achilles), Ryan Mason (skull), Stephen Kingsley (groin) and Will Keane (cruciate) long-term absentees.

Middlesbrough Preview

A run of four without victory came to end for Boro who defeated Reading last time out to make it six points from their last six fixtures. The North-Eastern outfit have not been losing many (four which is the same as leaders Sheffield United) and if they can start convert draws to victories could start to climb the table. Away from the Riverside Stadium, it has been a mixed bag with two victories, three draws and two defeats. They have played three of the bottom six on the road and have won two of these and drawn the other. Defence has been key for Middlesbrough this season with the 12 they have conceded giving them the joint second best defensive record. Four of their last five fixtures have seen a goal netted in the opening 30 minutes.

Middlesbrough Team News

Rudy Gestede (thigh) is unlikely to play any part in this fixture.
