Hull City vs Middlesbrough Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Hull City welcome Middlesbrough to the KCOM Stadium on 05/04/17 in a huge relegation six-pointer between two teams currently locked in the bottom three of the Premier League. Hull picked up a big win at the weekend, fighting back to beat West Ham 2-1. Middlesbrough too avoided defeat last time out, with Steve Agnew picking up his first point as Boro boss with a 0-0 draw at Swansea. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Hull’s home form is extremely impressive heading into this game, winning six of their last seven in all competitions and losing just once in their previous thirteen at home. With Boro equally as poor as they are strong away from home, I’m expecting to see a narrow home win in this one.

Hull win - 21/20

Hull win to nil - 2/1

Hull win and under 2.5 match goals - 11/4

Hull Preview

Hull fought back from a goal behind to beat another struggling side in West Ham United at the weekend to move within just a point of Swansea City in 17th. Andy Carroll opened the scoring in the eighteenth minute when he neatly controlled Aaron Cresswell’s cross from the left hand side, taking the ball on his chest and sliding the ball into the net with his left foot. But the game turned in the second half when Andy Robertson pulled the Tigers level, before Andrea Ranocchia scored his first goal for the club since arriving on loan from Inter Milan in January to win the game for Marco Silva’s men. They have capitalised on Swansea’s loss of form - beating them themselves prior to the international break - and now have the opportunity to enter the weekend’s round of fixtures out of the bottom three, with the Welsh outfit hosting Spurs at home on Wednesday evening. Their home form has been extremely impressive under Silva, winning six of their last seven at the KCOM in all competitions and have lost just once in their previous thirteen at home. It has been the catalyst for their survival push and with Watford and Sunderland to visit Humberside in their following two home matches, they will continue to target maximum points in front of their home supporters.

Middlesbrough Preview

Middlesbrough stopped the rot to a certain extent last time out, ending a run of four defeats on the bounce by holding Swansea to a 0-0 draw at the Liberty Stadium. It was clear from the early stages of the contest that Boro’s main priority was to avoid defeat and they sat off Swansea, looking to utilise the pace of Adama Traore on the break. Despite growing Swansea pressure, Middlesbrough were able to cling on to a hard-earned point which really leaves them in no better position than they were in prior to their visit to south Wales. The result also signalled the fifth consecutive game away from home where Middlesbrough have failed to score, having failed to find the back of the net on the road this calendar year so far. They are without a win away from home in fifteen, a run which stretches back to the second day of the Premier League season, although a possibly favourable omen from that result comes from the fact that was in the north east, away to Sunderland. Once again, a point in this probably won’t be good enough for Boro, who are in real need of a victory to spark confidence and belief that they can mount a late survival push. Defeat would leave them seven points adrift of Hull with just eight games remaining.

Hull Team News

Hull will be without Moses Odubajo (knee), Ryan Mason (skull fracture), Tom Huddlestone (suspension), Will Keane (cruciate ligament) and Dieumerci Mbokani (hamstring) for this one. Evandro (calf) will be assessed.

Middlesbrough Team News

Fabio (concussion) and Gaston Ramirez (ankle) are both unlikely to feature for the away side in this one. Defenders Calum Chambers (foot) and George Friend (calf) have both returned to training and could be in contention to feature here.
