Hull City vs Manchester City Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Hull City host Manchester City at the KCOM Stadium on 26/12/16 as the bottom club look to earn on of the shock results of the season so far. The Tigers were unfortunate to be beaten 1-0 away to West Ham United last time out, while Manchester City earned a huge three points, beating Arsenal 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium in a top of the table clash. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Hull Preview

Hull’s winless streak extended to six consecutive matches last time out, losing 1-0 away to West Ham United in a game which saw them strike the post no less than three times. Mark Noble’s penalty proved to be enough to put the game to bed for the Hammers who undoubtedly rode their luck - the club’s supporters voted the post as the man of the match via the club’s official Twitter page after the game. Six games without a win is relegation form, and Hull have managed just one win in their last fifteen matches since starting the season with two wins in their opening two league outings. The squad assembled at the KCOM Stadium simply looks unable to match up to the task of Premier League survival and big changes are necessary in January if they are to escape their current predicament. They are, however, unbeaten in their last three matches at home, beating Southampton while their last two home encounters have produced back-to-back score draws against West Brom and Crystal Palace. Mike Phelan took over as manager in far from ideal circumstances and their poor preparation for this season has undoubtedly been reflected in their performance so far.

Man City Preview

Manchester City secured back-to-back home Premier League wins for the first time since September last weekend, beating Arsenal 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium in a crucial win for Pep Guardiola’s men. It was the Gunners who opened the scoring in the first half, as Theo Walcott collected Alexis Sanchez’s pass before calmly slotting past the onrushing Claudio Bravo. However, the second half sparked a significant shift of momentum in City’s favour, starting with Leroy Sane’s equaliser just two minutes from the restart. The game was soon won by Raheem Sterling, who brought down Kevin De Bruyne’s sensational crossfield pass before beating Nacho Monreal and then Petr Cech at his near post to lift City above Arsenal in the table. City’s inconsistency this season has left many to question Guardiola’s credentials, although a man with such a track record should undoubtedly be gifted the benefit of the doubt after such a glittering career so far in management. De Bruyne ran the show for City in the second half against Arsenal and they will hope to see a repeat performance from the Belgian who started the season in such excellent form. This will be City’s final match before welcoming Sergio Aguero back to the fold from suspension.

Hull Team News

Moses Odubajo (knee), Alex Bruce (achilles), Abel Hernandez (hernia) and Will Keane (cruciate ligament) are all ruled out for Hull in this one. Goalkeeper Allan McGregor remains unavailable.

Man City Team News

City welcome back Fernandinho from suspension for this fixture, although Sergio Aguero will sit the final of his four-game ban at the KCOM Stadium. Vincent Kompany (knee) and Ilkay Gundogan (cruciate ligament) remain out, while Pablo Zabaleta (knee) is also ruled out.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Hull’s form this season makes them look almost certain for relegation and any potential escape they can push would go down as one of the biggest surprises in Premier League history. Manchester City meanwhile should receive a huge confidence boost from their victory over Arsenal and will expect to back that up here with another victory. I’m going for a comfortable City win in my prediction.
