Hull City vs Liverpool Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Hull City host Liverpool at the KCOM Stadium on 04/02/17 with both teams coming into this fixture off the back of draws in their last league outings. Hull’s stubbornness saw them hold off Manchester United at Old Trafford, drawing 0-0 with a frustrated Jose Mourinho’s side. Liverpool meanwhile stopped the rot to a certain extent, as they and Chelsea played out a competitive 1-1 draw at Anfield. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Hull Preview

Hull’s revival under Marco Silva continued in excellent circumstances at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, holding Jose Mourinho’s men to a goalless draw, with keeper Eldin Jakupovic in particular to thank for the result. Juan Mata and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were both denied by the Swiss stopper, who pulled off a number of wonderful saves to keep his team in the game, although they rarely threatened in the opposition half. Silva came with the reputation as being a tactically astute coach and he certainly proved it on Wednesday, now winning and drawing one apiece in his last two meetings with United. Barring the embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Fulham in the FA Cup, Silva has made an impressive start to life in England, although Swansea’s recent run of form means they will have to start getting wins on the board rather than settling for draws. Paul Clement’s men beat Southampton 2-1 midweek, leaving the Tigers four points adrift of safety with fifteen matches to go. Hull were on the receiving end of a 5-1 thrashing from Liverpool in the reverse fixture back in September and will certainly want to put that right with a positive result in this one.

Liverpool Preview

Jurgen Klopp will hope Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea can inspire his team to restore their previous confidence and belief for the remaining fifteen matches of the season. A lapse in concentration from the Liverpool wall and Simon Mignolet saw David Luiz catch the entire stadium off guard, as his free-kick went in via the post to put the visitors ahead. The Reds came out with a new lease of life in the second period and attacked Chelsea with real purpose and were later rewarded for it. Gini Wijnaldum headed in the equaliser after some determined play from James Milner down Liverpool’s left, as they battled their way back into the contest. Both had their chances in the final half an hour but neither could find a way through as the draw probably remained a fair result. The result ended a three-match losing streak at Anfield in all competitions, with the Reds dropping to 4th in the Premier League as a result of a difficult spell. They will, however, be delighted to see the back of the month of January, having managed just one win from nine games in the month and now welcome back Sadio Mane to the fold. Now ten points behind leaders Chelsea, their hopes of winning the title remain relatively slim, with it now being very much a case of top four or bust for Klopp’s men.

Hull Team News

Curtis Davies (hamstring), Moses Odubajo (knee), Ryan Mason (skull fracture), Markus Henriksen (shoulder) and Will Keane (cruciate ligament) are all set to miss out for the Tigers in this one. Ahmed Elmohamady remains at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Liverpool Team News

Sadio Mane could return to Liverpool’s starting XI after coming from the bench during Tuesday’s draw with Chelsea. Marko Grujic (foot) and Danny Ings (knee) are both ruled out through injury.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Both teams will have taken real confidence boosts from their draws midweek, particularly Liverpool who needed something to restore their belief in themselves. As good as Hull were at Old Trafford, this could be the first time Liverpool line up with Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino for the first time since November 6, and that could be a pivotal factor in the result.
