Hull City vs Ipswich Town Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Hull continued their slide down the table as they lost their third straight in their previous fixture before the international break going down 4-1 to Sheffield United. The game had started well when a Kamil Grosicki goal gave them the lead but four goals in the second-half killed them off. Ipswich bounced back from a recent poor run as they beat Preston 3-0 at Portman Road last time out. Martyn Waghorn, David McGoldrick and Bersant Celina all netted one each in a comfortable victory for the Suffolk outfit. The last time these two sides did battle was in the 2015/16 season with the Tigers coming out on top on both occasions. In fact, Hull have won each of their last four against the Tractor Boys and are unbeaten in nine games between the duo.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Ipswich are probably the slight value here but I would not be rushing to take that price on a side whose only win in their last four league away matches is at Burton so I will swerve the match prices for my bets. These are two of the highest scoring teams in the division but bookmakers are aware of this and the goal prices on offer reflect this. Just nine of the 26 the Suffolk side have scored have come in the first-half so take an interest on the second 45 minutes to be their highest scoring. Bersant Celina was handed a starting role last time out so we can switch our attention on him from last goalscorer to first goalscorer with the cover of him to score at any time in the match as he has three in three in the league.

Hull City Preview

The Tigers are finding like difficult since their return to the Championship and rather than fighting for promotion look set for a season of battling against a second successive drop. They are in 20th place and have lost each of their last three and have won just two of their last 11. At the KC Stadium, they have won three games, drawn one and lost four with three of these defeats coming in their last four. Each of their last five and seven of eight in front of their own fans has seen both teams find the back of the net. Only Wolves have scored more goals in the division (29) than the 28 that Hull have netted which is led by Jarrod Bowen who has scored eight times. Their defence is a huge problem though as they have conceded a third highest 30 goals and kept just two clean sheets all season.

Hull City Team News

The Tigers will be without Abel Hernandez (Achilles), Jon Toral (hamstring), Will Keane (cruciate), Stephen Kingsley (groin) and Ryan Mason (skull fracture) while Evandro (hamstring) and Moses Odbuajo (broken kneecap) are doubts.

Ipswich Town Preview

It is now two victories from their last three for the Tractor Boys who before that had lost three straight. They sit in eighth in the table though five of their next six are against teams in the top half. Away from Portman Road, they have won just three of seven and lost four with defeats in four of their last five. Both teams to score is a feature of these road matches and has happened in seven of their last eight in all competitions. The 26 goals they have scored has them the joint third highest scorers in the division and they are led by Martyn Waghorn who has scored eight times. Their defence has struggled shipping 22 goals which is joint seventh highest and none of the four clean sheets they have kept this season has come on the road.

Ipswich Town Team News

Emyr Huws (Achilles) is closing in on a return while Andre Dozzell (knee) is a long-term absentee.
