Hull City vs Cardiff City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture is an important one in the race for the promotion places.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Hull were involved in a ten-goal thriller last time out as they went to Ashton Gate and battled out a 5-5 draw with Bristol City.  Harry Wilson grabbed a brace while Abel Hernandez and Frazier Campbell grabbed one each and the other came from an own-goal.

Cardiff were in action on Tuesday night and they missed a chance to extend their lead in second as they lost 3-1 away to Derby.  They were one up with just 22 minutes to play through a Callum Paterson brace but that was the end of the scoring and County grabbed three to take all the points.

The reverse fixture came in mid-December and the Welsh outfit won that one 1-0 thanks to a Sol Bamba goal.  It put to an end a run of three straight defeats to the Yorkshire side and five without a victory.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I hoped that Cardiff needing to win might give a price boost on a Hull side who does not need to win but that does not look to be the case.  The visitors are the favourites but the odds are probably where they should be.

The Bluebirds will need to win this game so I would expect them to go for it in the second 45 minutes while the Tigers can hit them on the counter.  It makes sense then to back over 1.5 goals in the second 45 minutes and the second-half to be the highest scoring.

Hull City Preview

The Tigers have taken 19 points from their last 12 fixtures which is enough to have secured their safety in the Championship for another season.  After taking over during the season Nigel Adkins will be rewarded with a summer to try and build a side of his own.

At the KC Stadium, they have lost just two of their last 12 fixtures and just seven times during the whole season.  Abel Hernandez has found the back of the net four times in his last five home appearances.

Hull have netted a remarkable 16 goals from their last five Championship fixtures.  56% of the goals they have scored in the league this season have come in the second-half with 41% in the final 30 minutes.

Hull City Team News

Evandro (groin) and Moses Odubajo (knee) are doubts. James Weir (also knee) is a long-term absentee.

Cardiff City Preview

The Bluebirds suffered their third defeat in their last five in midweek to mean that it is all to play for in the race to finish second.  The Welsh outfit sit one point above Fulham with this game and a tie at home to Reading to round off the season.

Away from the Cardiff City Stadium, they have lost two of the last three but both came at top five sides and before this they were unbeaten in six.  They have fourth best ranked road defence in the division.

Each of the last two and seven of the last nine Cardiff have played have seen both teams find the back of the net.  Six of the last ten they have been involved in have gone over 2.5 goals with four of these going over 3.5 goals.

Cardiff City Team News

Jazz Richards (ankle) and Danny Ward (knee) are all doubts
