Hull City vs Burton Albion Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon game (15:00) in the Championship features the first ever league encounter between these two teams. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Hull got their campaign off to a decent start as they claimed a point at Villa Park against Aston Villa. They went 1-0 in the 7th minute but held firm and as the game went on grew in confidence and influence before finally a Jarrod Bowen strike earned them a point. Burton had a disappointing start to the season as they lost at home to Cardiff with a goal in the 87th minute giving their visitors all three points. These two sides have never met before in any league match so there is no head-ro-head record available to study.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I think Hull are being over-rated here as they still need time to gel the unit together and although Burton are not great they certainly look capable of holding them close. Try the split Asian Handicap of 0.5 and 1.0 which parts of your stake on the draw/Burton win and another on the Brewers at least avoiding getting hammered. I think Burton look capable of scoring here and think they look worth siding with in the time of the first team goal market which has the Brewers at 79:00.

Hull City Preview

At their own ground, Hull were solid last season in the Premier League only losing seven times and they need to keep this form going if they want to make the top six this season. Both teams to score was a feature of these matches in front of their own fans with it happening in seven of their last ten. A 1-1 draw with Villa last time out was a fair result with the Midlands side starting the game stronger but Hull coming into it in the second-half. The three men behind forward Abel Hernandez (Grosicki, Campbell and Bowen) all registered a couple of shots-on-target each and look worth watching in the scorer markets. As they were in the Premier League last season Hull will have enjoyed the advantage of a midweek rest with no League Cup fixture.

Hull City Team News

Goebel Evandro (hamstring) and Ryan Mason (skull fracture) are rated day-to-day while Kevin Stewart (unknown) and Moses Odubajo (broken knee cap) are doubts. David Marshall (ankle) is out until the end of the month while Will Keane (cruciate) is out for months.

Burton Albion Preview

On the road, Burton struggled to pick up wins last season claiming just four of them though they did draw nine on their travels which meant they avoided defeat in 13 of 23. The big issue for the Brewers on their travels has been lack of goals with just 21 in 23 last season. It was a disappointing open day of the season for the Midlands outfit as they lost 1-0 at home to Cardiff. They were dominated in the shot day and struggled to create many chances against a well-drilled Neil Warnock outfit. In the League Cup, they got back to scoring ways as they won a five-goal encounter at Boundary Park defeating Oldham 3-2. The goalscorers that day were Luke Varney, Matty Lund and a game winning penalty from Lukas Akins.

Burton Albion Team News

Liam Boyce (cruciate) will miss most of the season.
