Hull City vs Bolton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Phill Barrs

This Friday evening (19:45) game from the KC Stadium features two sides who were two divisions apart last season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and major stats. Hull suffered a second successive lost in their last league game as they went to Loftus Road and lost 2-1 to QPR despite taking the lead through Jarrod Bowen. In the League Cup, Hull were the victims of a giant killing act going down 2-0 to League One side Doncaster. Bolton suffered a second league home defeat of the season as they went down 2-1 to Derby County with a 90th minute Gary Madine acting as little more than a consolation. In midweek, they came out on top 3-2 in a five-goal thriller with Sheffield Wednesday thanks to a goal each from Dorian Dervite, Adam Armstrong (penalty) and Jem Karacan. The last time this pair met was in the 2015/16 with the home side winning both games with the game in Yorkshire ending 1-0 which was also the same scoreline when they did battle in Lancashire.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Hull are the deserved favourites here but I would not be rushing to back them at such short prices and would propose looking elsewhere for the recommended bets. A feature of Bolton games is they look to keep things tight early and I think it could be worth swimming against any early goal. Back the game to have no goal before 29:00 and a smaller interest on 0-0 in the half-time correct score market.

Hull City Preview

Four games four points for Hull who started the season well but have suffered back-to-back defeats. They have a tricky run of fixtures coming up with four of the next five against sides who were expected to finish in the top ten pre-season by bookmakers. At home, they have played twice in the league this season hammering Burton 4-1 before going down 3-2 to Wolves. A feature of games in front of their own fans is goals with six of the last eight and each of the last three going over 2.5. Abel Hernandez is their top-scorer with a hat-trick against Burton while Jarrod Bowen has found the net on two separate occasions. Three of their four league matches this season have seen a goal netted in the opening ten minutes.

Hull City Team News

They have a lengthy injury list with as many as nine players doubtful or ruled out for this game. Ryan Mason (skull fracture), David Marshall (ankle), Frazier Campbell (thigh); Kevin Stewart (ankle) and Moses Odabujo (broken knee cap) are those unlikely to feature while Abel Hernandez (Achilles), Goebel Evandro (hamstring), Markus Henriksen (foot) and Will Keane (cruciate) are all ruled out.

Bolton Wanderers Preview

It has been a tough start to life in the Championship for the Lancashire side who have lost two and drawn two of their opening four. This is the first of two games against relegated sides before they take on Sheff U in a tricky trio of matches. On the road, they have taken both those draws and they seem to look a lot tighter on their travels shipping just once. It is a feature of these games that both were scoreless going into the break. Wanderers have netted four times in four games this season with Gary Madine their only player to net on two separate occasions. Five of the six they have conceded have come in the opening 45 minutes.

Bolton Wanderers Team News

David Wheater (back) has returned to training while Josh Vela (ankle) and Sammy Ameobi (knee) are nearing their returns.
