Hull City vs Barnsley Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) fixture is an important one in the relegation battle as it sees fifth bottom host fourth bottom. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Hull picked up an important three points on Friday evening as they defeated Sheffield United 1-0 at the KC Stadium. A Nouha Dicko proved the difference between the two sides in a game the Tigers deserved to win. Barnsley also picked up three vital points as they won a relegation battle at St Andrew’s defeating Birmingham 2-0. Ollie McBurnie grabbed a brace and missed a penalty as Jose Morais got a victory in his second match in charge of the Tykes. The reverse fixture came in October at Oakwell in a game that the visitors won 1-0 thanks to a Frazier Campbell goal. It means that two of their last three competitive meetings have been won by the road team.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Hull are going well at home with no defeat in their last six but given four of these have ended in draws. Barnsley though are also showing signs of life themselves and I think the visitors look value in the draw no bet market. What I like about the Tykes is that they have a proven goal threat in Oliver McBurnie (more on him later) while the Tigers are struggling for goals and depend upon Jarrod Bowen who has been carrying a few injuries. Oliver McBurnie has adjusted well since his loan move from Swansea and he looks good value to score here having grabbed three in his last three. You could play it anyway but as all three of his goals have come in the first-half I would recommend an each-way interest on him to be first goalscorer.

Hull City Preview

The Tigers have picked up two victories from their last three to put to an end a run of nine in the league without victory. They are now in 20th place two points above Birmingham in 22nd with this game in hand. At the KC Stadium, they are unbeaten in their last six though four of these have finished in draws. They have kept a clean sheet in each of their last three in front of their own fans and in four of their last five. None of the last eight Hull games in the Championship have seen a goal netted in the final 30 minutes. Their last four competitive meetings with Barnsley have produced a combined total of just five goals.

Hull City Team News

Harry Wilson (shoulder), Ondrej Mazuch (hamstring), Markus Henriksen (ankle), Stephen Kingsley (groin) and Abel Hernandez (Achilles) are doubts. Moses Odubajo and James Weir (both knee issues) are long-term absentees.

Barnsley Preview

Victory at the weekend put to an end a six-game winless league run and was only their second in their last 18. They sit in 21st one place and one point above Birmingham with this their game in hand. Away from Oakwell, they have won two of their last four recording victories at Sunderland and Birmingham and defeats at Aston Villa and QPR. They have managed to net at least once in 11 of their last 14 on their travels. Around 55% of the league goals Barnsley have scored this season have come in the opening 45 minutes. Oliver McBurnie has looked good since his loan move from Swansea netting three times in his last three appearances.

Barnsley Team News

Matt Mills (unknown) and Ethan Pinnock (broken foot) are doubts.
