Huddersfield Town vs Southampton Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Huddersfield Town lost a fourth consecutive league match after a 1-0 defeat against Newcastle at home. Despite playing at home, a second-half goal from Salomon Rondon was sufficient to beat Huddersfield in the game. Meanwhile, Southampton picked up their first league victory since September after beating Arsenal 3-2 at the St Mary’s Stadium. Danny Ings provided Southampton with a lead twice in the match, but Arsenal were able to get back on both occasions through goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan. However, a late header from Charlie Austin sent Southampton fans into joy.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Southampton were quite impressive in the recent win over Arsenal. Even though Ralph Hasenhuttl will struggle to get his team to perform in the same manner without their home support, the victory over the Gunners will provide the team with a massive lift. Huddersfield are in desperate need of a similar result after having gone through four consecutive losses – even if they have played relatively well during this period. Southampton’s excellent match against Arsenal makes me go with an away win in this match.

The game features two teams that have been struggling to get going in front of goal. Even though Southampton’s forward line up came up with three goals during the weekend, Huddersfield have been defensively solid of late. Southampton forwards may not necessarily get the same motivation while playing against Huddersfield. I would back the game with under 2.5 goals.

Huddersfield Town Preview

Even though Huddersfield briefly went out of the bottom three places owing to victories over the likes of Fulham and Wolves, David Wagner’s men have been unable to sustain the position for long. The last few matches may have witnessed an indifferent set of performances from Huddersfield but it is to be expected from a team that is struggling for confidence. Huddersfield have been poor going forward throughout the campaign, but games against Wolves have shown that the team can recreate the spirit of the 2017-18 campaign if they stick to their tactics. A return of just 10 league goals this season place Huddersfield as the lowest scoring team so far.

Huddersfield Town Team News

Abdelhamid Sabiri (broken collarbone), Daniel Williams (knee), Tom Smith (hamstring), and Aaron Mooy (ligament) are unavailable for Huddersfield.

Southampton Preview

Ralph Hasenhuttl was finally able to get his first victory as a Southampton manager but it came against an unlikely opponent in the form of Arsenal. The game against the gunners witnessed a remarkable performance from the Saints in almost every area of the pitch. The tempo, tactical awareness, and ability to break forward quickly were all key factors in getting the club to a positive result for the first time since his appointment in a few weeks ago. Even now, Southampton’s offence may be poor in terms of statistics but players like Danny Ings and Charlie Austin can help revive the form.

Southampton Team News

Ryan Bertrand (back), Cedric Soares (calf), Jack Stephens (knee), Mario Lemina (stomach), Sam Gallagher (hamstring), and Michael Obafemi (hamstring) constitute a lengthy but crucially treatment table for Huddersfield.
