Huddersfield Town vs Sheffield Wednesday Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Sunday lunchtime (12:00) game is a first-leg semi-final play-off game in the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.
This tie pits the side who finished fourth (Wednesday) versus the side who finished fifth (Huddersfield) who had the same amount of points.  A better end of season run of form along with the fact that they made the final last season is why the Owls are the shorter price in the to qualify market.
Another reason that Wednesday are shorter is that they won both meetings between the duo this season. They won at Huddersfield in October with a Fernando Forestieri penalty proving the difference between the pair. Forestieri was on the score sheet again in January when along with Ross Wallace he helped Wednesday to a 2-0 victory in a game that saw Town also have Jack Payne dismissed.

Betting Tips and Predictions

This looks a tough game to call as the final league table show little exists to separate the pair. It could be a nervy affair and I think it might be worth an interest on a wait for goals with NO goal before 33:00 worth siding with. In addition, sticking with the no goals theme take an interest on the match to be level at half-time.

NO goal before 33:00

Game to be level at half-time

Huddersfield Town saw over 1.5 goals in 7 out of their last 10 games played

Sheffield Wednesday saw over 1.5 goals in 9 out of their last 10 games played

Huddersfield Town Preview

Just one victory from their last five games and just three from their last ten saw Huddersfield end the season in disappointing form. At home, they have lost each of their last two and won just four of their last nine.

This marks the eighth time that the Terriers have competed in an end of season play-off. They have been successful on three occasions including most recently in 2012 when they gained promotion from League 1 via these means.

Goals have been a struggle for Town in recent weeks netting just three times in their last five though at home they have fired seven in their last four. They have shipped nine goals in their last three in front of their own fans. Eiias Kachunga has found the back of the net two times in the last three home fixtures.

Huddersfield Town Team News

The Terriers have doubts over Philip Biling (knee) and Elias Kachunga (calf).

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

Despite a final day defeat at home to Fulham Wednesday ended the season as the form team with six victories and one draw from their last eight. On the road, they are unbeaten in their last four winning each of their last three.

The Owls reached the play-off final last season before losing 1-0 at Wembley to Hull. They have though had success in the end of season event back in 2005 when they used it to get promotion from League 1.

Nine of their last 11 games have seen exactly two or three goals scored while in away matches this five of the last seven. The Yorkshire side have conceded just six times in their last eight. Fernando Forestieri found the net four times in the last ten Sheffield Wednesday fixtures

Sheffield Wednesday Team News

Gary Hooper (hamstring) is unlikely to play any part.
