Huddersfield Town vs Preston North End Match Prediction

By William Hall

This Friday afternoon (15:00) game will have implications on the top half of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

It is Preston who have dominated recent meetings between the duo with four victories to just the single one from Huddersfield. This includes a 3-1 success in the reverse fixture back in October. Tom Clarke, Alex Baptiste and Paul Gallagher got the goals for North End that day while Town got a solitary consolation effort from Nahki Wells. Huddersfield continued their disappointing end to the season as they slumped to a third defeat in four games at the weekend as they lost 2-0 to Nottingham Forest. The Terriers saw a lot of the ball but could not break their hosts down.

North End suffered defeat at the weekend also going down 3-0 to Leeds in a game they really needed to win if they were to keep alive their slim play-off hopes.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Although both teams have limited motivations with Town set to miss out on automatic promotion but unlikely to miss out on the play-offs and North End too far away from the top six now I do still think there is value to be had in the match betting. I like the look of Preston in the draw no bet market. The Terriers have been poor in recent weeks with that only win coming against a Norwich side who are awful on their travels. The Lillywhites found have lost just two in their last ten and these came at strong home sides in Leeds and Fulham and I think they can come out of this with something.

I think YES in the both teams to score market also looks the way to play this game as Preston are the sixth highest scoring side in the division while Town have failed to find the net in just one of their last 14 home matches.

Huddersfield Preview

Three defeats from their last four and just three victories in their last eight has put paid to any hopes that Huddersfield had of finishing in the automatic promotion spots. They now sit third ten behind Newcastle and even with a game in hand that gap looks too big. It has been two victories and two defeats from their last four at home for the Terriers with victories coming over Norwich and Aston Villa and defeats coming against Burton and Newcastle. This is one of three remaining matches in front of their own fans with the others coming against Cardiff and Fulham. The last six games for the Yorkshire side has seen one or both teams fail to score which is also the case in four of their last five at home. Just three of their last nine have gone over 2.5 goals. In just one of their last seven have Huddersfield scored in the first-half of the tie.

Preston Preview

Defeat at Leeds put to an end a five-game unbeaten run and put to an end brief hopes that they would make the play-offs. Preston now sit in ninth place which is eight behind Sheffield Wednesday in sixth with just five games to play. It is now eight on the road without victory for North End and it is this away form that has denied them a chance to finish in the top six this season. This marks the first of three remaining away games with Newcastle and Wolves their other two opponents. Eight of their last 11 fixtures have gone over 2.5 goals though this goes down to three of seven when just looking at away ties. Tom Barkhuizen has netted three times in the last four Preston away matches. Their last five games have seen a goal in the first 32 minutes.
