Huddersfield Town Preview

David Wagner’s side simply weren’t at the races last weekend, learning a harsh lesson that any side can turn you over if performance and effort levels aren’t close to optimum, after Bournemouth secured a 4-0 win over the Terriers at the Vitality Stadium. Callum Wilson scored a double in the opening half an hour of the game, but Huddersfield were awarded a way back into the game when Cherries’ skipper Simon Francis was sent off just before half-time. However, they in no way took advantage of the extra man, instead conceding a third from Harry Arter before Wilson completed his hat-trick five minutes from time to secure a humbling defeat of the newly-promoted side. Wagner has seen his side struggle away from home this season, with the team now six games without a win on the road, five of which have been defeated and all of have seen them fail to score. Their opening day clash against Crystal Palace remains the only time they have scored on the road this season, with their home form being the key to their current position of 10th in the Premier League. Huddersfield will still come into this game with confidence having won back-to-back home games prior to the visit of Manchester City and will hold little fear of their opponents having defeated Manchester United a month ago. Tottenham Hotspur are the only side to win at the John Smith’s Stadium this season, but he Terriers will have to be at their very best to deny their opponents three points this weekend.

Huddersfield Town Team News

Michael Hefele (achilles), Jon Gorenc-Stankovic (cruciate ligament) and Philip Billing (ankle) are all ruled out for Huddersfield. Kasey Palmer (hamstring) could return.

Manchester City Preview

The strength of the side Pep Guardiola named against Feyenoord in the Champions League demonstrated both the winning mentality and desire to keep their streak of victories going after securing a 1-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium. City’s patience was well and truly tested by the struggling Eredivisie champions, as they were forced to wait until the 88th minute to secure the victory. Ilkay Gundogan found Raheem Sterling who converted the chance confidently to score his 11th goal of the season in all competitions, while Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz both made their senior debuts for the club from the bench. With a run of 17 consecutive wins fuelling the wind in City’s sails, it’s almost impossible to pick out negatives from this team at present, with the team still yet to suffer defeat all season - drawing once and winning 18 from a total of 19 games. Guardiola appears to have tightened the screws defensively during the off-season and now, after the benefit of two summer transfer windows, has a team he can call his own, having undoubtedly benefitted from having more athletic options at full-back in Kyle Walker, Fabian Delph and Danilo. City have won six from six away from home in the Premier League this season, scoring a total of 16 goals en route to securing 18 road points.

Manchester City Team News

Defenders John Stones (hamstring) and Benjamin Mendy (cruciate ligament) are City’s only injury concerns.
