Huddersfield Town vs Ipswich Town Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

These two sides need points for differing reasons and they will do battle at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon (15:00).  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Huddersfield boss David Wagner conceded that ’we were not clinical enough’ after his side went down 2-0 to Sheffield Wednesday last time out in the Championship thanks to goals from Ross Wallace and Fernando Forestieri. Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy will be hoping for a reaction after his side were poor in their FA Cup replay against Lincoln with the non-league side beating them 1-0.  Town will hope that they put in a performance more like their last Championship game where two Tom Lawrence goals and one from Christophe Berra lead them to a 3-2 victory over Blackburn. Christopher Schindler got the only goal of the game for The Terriers when these sides met back on October 1st in a game that was fairly evenly balanced.

Huddersfield Preview

Despite defeat last time out Huddersfield are on a good run of form with five wins, two draws and just one defeat from their last eight games. It is a sequence of results that sees them sit fifth in the Championship table. Town are unbeaten in their last three home matches and have the second-best home record in the division. They will though be disappointed that they have taken just seven points from their last four in front of their own fans as these have all been against sides in the bottom eight of the league. Both teams to score has been a feature of the Terriers fixtures in front of their own fans as this has happened in nine of their last 12. Six of the 12 the Yorkshire side have won this season at their own ground have ended 2-1.

Ipswich Preview

Three wins from their last five league games has put a bit of distance between Ipswich in 14th and Blackburn in 22nd with the gap now up to ten points. The Suffolk side are one of the weaker away teams in the division just ranked 17th though wins at Derby and Sheffield Wednesday show they are capable of springing a shock on their day. The Tractor Boys struggle to find the back of the net on their travels with just the 23rd best-ranked attack and failing to fire on six separate occasions. They have conceded at least two goals in each of their last four away fixtures.

Huddersfield Team News

Sean Scannell (ankle) is absent until March while it is unclear how long Joe Murphy (broken finger) will be out. Jack Payne will also be missing through suspension. Nearer to a return are injured trio Kasey Palmer (hamstring), Jonathan Hogg (thigh) and Rajiv Van La Parra (knee).

Ipswich Team News

Mick McCarthy might look to make changes following his sides shock FA Cup exit to Lincoln. Michael Crowe (ankle), Brett Pitman (groin), David McGoldrick (hamstring) and Teddy Bishop (ankle) are all doubts.  Giles Coke (knee), Luke Hyam (knee), Myles Kenlock (calf) and Tommy Smith (back) are still a few weeks away from a return while Jonny Williams (dislocated shoulder) is out until March.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I like Huddersfield to win this though the price is probably a little bit restrictive. One way to enhance this is to take them to win the game by one goal. This has been the margin of victory in all 14 of their league wins this season.

The away side have found the net at Reading, Wednesday, Derby and Birmingham this season and look capable of doing the same here especially with the in-form Tom Lawrence. So take a play on YES in the both teams to score market.
