Huddersfield Town vs Cardiff City Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

Cardiff have a good recent record in meetings between the pair going eight unbeaten including a 3-2 victory in the reverse fixture back in November. Sean Morrison, Junior Hoilett and Rickie Lambert got the goals for the Welsh side that day while Tommy Smith and Philip Billing got the only goals for Town. The Terriers lost 2-0 last time out to Birmingham as their season seems to have slowed down after they missed their chance on automatic promotion and they reserve energy for the play-off battle ahead.

Cardiff have been established in mid-table for a while and have not really done much since and they were no match for Newcastle in their last game going down 2-0 to the Magpies.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Under 2.5 goals looks the way to play this game as Huddersfield are probably going to be doing their best to avoid injury while Cardiff have been on the beach for a while especially away from home. This bet would have paid in five of the last six for the Welsh side and four of the last six for the Yorkshire outfit. Such is the lack of urgency here I think we will see a lot of keep ball and I think unless there is a mistake or a wonder strike we will have to wait for the goals, if we see any at all. Take NO goal before 29:00 minutes.

Huddersfield Town Preview

It has been a disappointing spell of form for the Terriers lately with just four points from their last four games and just four wins from their last 12. They sit in fifth place and must weigh up the importance of home advantage in the second leg against risking getting players injured or suspended. In front of their own fans, form has been good for Town with four victories, two draws and just one defeat from their last seven. Over the season they have the joint third best home record in the division. Lack of goals has been an issue for Huddersfield this season with their 56 scored just the 14th best in the division though the defence is the joint seventh best. They average 2.47 goals per game and 24 of their 45 matches have gone under 2.5 goals. Elias Kachunga is their main goal threat with 12 goals this season including two in the last four.

Huddersfield Town Team News

Huddersfield made a number of changes last time out that may get them in trouble but David Wagner will not hesitate to do the same again with promotion a clear priority.

Cardiff City Preview

It is just two wins in the last seven games for the Bluebirds and just three from their last 12. They sit 13th in the Championship table and can go as high as 11th with a victory or drop to 14th if results go against them. On their travels, it is six without a victory picking up just three points in these games. The Welsh side sit 15th when it comes to away form which is about reflective of their mid-table position. City have the 13th best defensive record in the division and this is also where they sit in the attacking table. Their fixtures produced a total of 2.62 goals per game and they sit right in the middle with 23 games having gone under and 22 having going over. Kenneth Zohore has been their top scorer this season with 11 goals though he has not found the back of the net in the last five.

Cardiff City Team News

Sol Bamba (groin), Rhys Healey (cruciate) and Kadeem Harris (unknown) are unlikely to play any part in this game.
