Huddersfield Town vs Brighton & Hove Albion Match Prediction

By Charlotte Louise Bushell

Two promotion hopefuls will do battle in front of the Sky cameras on Thursday night (19:45). Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

It was a 4-0 FA Cup success at the weekend for Huddersfield with a brace from Michael Hefele and one each from Collin Quaner and Isaiah Brown (penalty) helping them see off Rochdale. In their last league game, they beat Ipswich 2-0 with Isaiah Brown and Chris Schindler getting a goal each.

Brighton looked to be heading into the fifth round after Richard Towell gave them the lead before non-league Lincoln grabbed three in a thirty-minute spell to send the Seagulls flying out of the cup. Last time out in the Championship a Tomer Hemed strike enabled them to get past well drilled Cardiff.

It is nine head-to-head meetings unbeaten for Brighton who won the last encounter between the pair back in September thanks to an Anthony Knockaert effort.

Huddersfield Town Preview

It is just one defeat in their last 11 in all competitions a run that has seen Huddersfield secure a home fifth-round cup match versus Man City and in the league, they sit in fifth place with a four point gap between then and Sheffield Wednesday in sixth. It is three wins and one draw from their last four games at home though this marks the start of a spell where they play three successive home fixtures against teams in the top four. Both teams to score is a feature of ties at the John Smith’s Stadium with this occurring in five of the last six in the league and nine of 13 in total this season. Each of the last six at their own ground has seen exactly two or three goals scored.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

Brighton have won seven of their last eight in the league and have lost just three league games all season. It is no shock then that they sit top of the table and look good things for automatic promotion.

The Seagulls have suffered back-to-back defeats away from home with that FA Cup loss coming after defeat at Preston on their previous road trip. These losses marked their first defeats away since way back in August which is an impressive run.

The South Coast side are usually quite difficult to break down, but in recent away matches they have been involved in some high-scoring battles with three of their last four going over 2.5 goals. In five of their last ten away fixtures, they have won the game by just the one goal.

Huddersfield Team News

The Terriers could be without Kasey Palmer (hamstring) who is listed as day-to-day while Chris Lowe (illness) and Joe Murphy (broken finger) are unlikely to feature. Jack Payne (suspended) and Sean Scannell (ankle) are both confirmed to miss the game.

Brighton Team News

Gaetan Bong (knee) is expected to miss out for Brighton. Chris Hughton must decide what role new loan signing Chuba Akpom will play after completing a move from Arsenal.

Betting Predictions and Tips

The expectation with the bookmakers is that the game will be a tight one between two strong sides. This could be the case, but with overs a strong outsider it is worth an interest that the game goes the other way between two teams who have some strong attacking talent. Three of the last four Brighton away games have gone over as have four of the last six Huddersfield home matches.

YES in the both teams to score market also appeals. This would have paid in nine of 13 Huddersfield home fixtures this season and four of the last five Brighton away ties.
