Houston Dynamo vs San Jose Earthquakes Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Houston Dynamo went five games unbeaten in the MLS, but the club could only manage a goalless draw with Real Salt Lake last weekend. Both teams had several opportunities to come up with the breakthrough, but neither team were clinical enough to secure the winning goal. San Jose Earthquakes managed a second consecutive win after beating Columbus Crew 2-1 at the Avaya stadium. San Jose scored either side of the breakthrough Marco Urena and Chris Wondolowski, while Adam Jahn scored what proved to be only a consolation for Columbus Crew. In the midweek action, the club were beaten on penalties by Sporting Kansas City in the U.S. Open Cup. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Houston have had the better of recent games against San Jose after winning four of the last six. Their impressive home form also makes for good reading, while San Jose have lost their last five away games in all competitions. I would go with a win for Houston Dynamo. There has been an obvious lack of clean sheets in Houston’s recent games at the BBVA Compass stadium. The last clean sheet at this ground was in the first week of May. Despite San Jose’s poor away record, the team has failed to score only twice in the last five on the road. San Jose have also failed to score only twice in the last six away games against Houston. I would back both teams to score.

Houston Dynamo Preview

A return to home comforts will be appreciated by Houston Dynamo manager Wilmer Cabrera, who has seen his team manage only two wins in the last five league matches. The team has been on the road in three of these five games, and Houston have not been comfortable on their travels. The club has picked up just one win in the 12 away games eight wins in 11 home games. There is also a huge gulf in the goalscoring aspect with 30 goals scored at home compared to just nine on the road. Even in terms of home form, Wilmer Cabrera will have to take steps to improve a return of three wins in the last five home games. Erick Torres remains the top scorer at Houston with 12 goals.

Houston Dynamo Team News

Wilmer Cabrera will be unable to select George Malki (ligament) and Eric Alexander (ligament) due to injuries, while Romell Quioto is suspended for the game.

San Jose Earthquakes Preview

The contrast between away and home form has been profound in the case of San Jose Earthquakes, who have suffered three defeats and managed two wins in the last five games of all competitions. All of the victories came at home while the defeats were on the road. New manager Chris Leitch is unlikely to be impressed with this record, as San Jose are on the road in four of the next five league matches. The game against Philadelphia Union is the only match at the Avaya stadium for almost a month. Chris Wondolowski is the top scorer at San Jose after scoring nine league goals.

San Jose Earthquakes Team News

Leitch will be without Marc Pelosi (knee), Marvell Wynne (heart), and Harold Cummings (hernia) due to injury. Darwin Ceren and Anibal Godoy are suspended for the game.
