Hibernian vs Rangers Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Hibernian produced an excellent display to deny Celtic three points in the latest 2-2 draw on Sunday. Neil Lennon’s team looked to be heading for a first defeat against his former employers when Scott Sinclair scored a brace early in the first half. However, late goals from Efe Ambrose and Oliver Shaw rescued a point for the home team. Rangers made it three consecutive wins after beating Ross County 2-1 at home. Graeme Murty’s team received a 10th minute setback when Craig Curran scored for the away team, but the second-half witnessed a comeback with goals from Alfredo Morelos and Daniel Wilson. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The recent form for Hibernian has not been the greatest with only two wins in five, and it is a similar story with regard to their form at the Easter Road stadium – even after the comeback draw with Celtic. Rangers are on a run of three consecutive wins, but their head-to-head record against Hibernian is not the greatest with losses in the recent three meetings. Even then, Hibernian’s return of just two wins in the last five home games coupled with Rangers winning four out of the last five away games are my reasons to back the away team. The game promises plenty of goals with both teams on a strong scoring form. Rangers and Hibernian have managed a combined 21 goals in the last six SPL games. The last two meetings between these two teams have finished as a 3-2 victory in favour of Hibernian. I would go with over 2.5 goals in this match.

Hibernian Preview

Hibernian lost further ground on the second place after Sunday’s result, but it would have provided the team with huge confidence going into a run of several games over the next few weeks. Lennon will want to use the result against Celtic to improve on a return of just two wins in the last five SPL matches. The team do have a significant advantage over fifth-placed Motherwell, but the lack of momentum over the last few weeks will be a cause of concern for the Lennon. After having played two games in December, Hibernian have five more to come in the next three weeks. Simon Murray leads the scoring charts at Hibernian with six in 16.

Hibernian Team News

Liam Fontaine (ankle), David Gray (knee), and Ross Laidlaw (knee) are the players unavailable for Hibernian.

Rangers Preview

The decision to hand interim manager Graeme Murty until the end of the season appears to have been welcomed by players, as the impact of the 43-year-old has been clear in the last few weeks. Rangers have picked up three consecutive league victories and have also been able to take advantage of Celtic dropping points. Even though the team leaders can still open up an eight-point advantage, Rangers have been boosted by a glimmer of the title. Alfredo Morelos has finally moved on to seven goals for the campaign from 15 appearances. He is the top scorer at Rangers this season.

Rangers Team News

Graham Dorrans (malleolar) is the injury issue for Rangers.
