Hibernian vs Aberdeen Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Hibernian were able to inflict yet another defeat of Rangers as the team picked up a 2-1 victory at Ibrox. Hibernian took the lead through Jon McGinn just before half-time, but Rangers equalised when Sean Goss scored in the 73rd minute. Just two minutes later, Hibernian were back in front through a penalty from the club’s new acquisition, Jamie McLaren. Aberdeen made it four consecutive wins after beating Dundee United 4-2 in the FA Cup. A brace from Gary Mackay Steven coupled with further goals from Adam Rooney and Kenny McLean helped the hosts to a victory. Aberdeen’s last league match finished as a 3-0 win over Hamilton.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The Aberdeen outfit has been able to dominate this fixture with five wins in the last six. Incidentally, the only victory for Hibernian in this run came at the Easter Road stadium – in the Scottish League Cup. Hibernian’s home form has improved in recent weeks and the team has lost only once at home in five. Meanwhile, Aberdeen are also quite decent on the road. The key factor would be the 15-day break for Hibernian. I would back a win for Neil Lennon’s team. The lack of clean sheets at the Easter Road stadium has been a defining factor behind Hibernian struggling to catch up with Rangers. Lennon has seen his team manage just one clean sheet in the home games. Aberdeen’s offence has improved substantially as players like Adam Rooney are on song. I would back both teams to score.

Hibernian Preview

Hibernian have been able to get an extended break due to the lack of involvement in the Scottish FA Cup. The team will have had plenty of time to prepare for the crucial round of matches. A run of three victories in the last four SPL matches has once again put Hibernian in the spotlight for a top four finish. Hibernian need only five points in order to catch up with Graeme Murty’s team, and Lennon will be quite happy to keep his team in this position while still eating away Rangers’ advantage. Anthony Stokes is the top scorer at the club with seven goals in 18.

Hibernian Team News

Ross Laidlaw (shoulder fracture) and David Gray (Achilles tendon) are the injury worries for Hibernian manager Neil Lennon.

Aberdeen Preview

Aberdeen are making a strong case for the second spot in the SPL table after managing four consecutive victories in all competitions. The team has also been able to reach the quarter-finals of the Scottish FA Cup following a comfortable victory over Dundee United. The next few matchdays could test the club to the maximum, as games against Celtic and Kilmarnock are coming up. These are matches in which Aberdeen could drop more points and find themselves coming under pressure from Rangers, who are three points behind. Adam Rooney is the club’s top scorer with eight goals in 24 games.

Aberdeen Team News

Joe Lewis (knee) and Michael Devlin (cruciate ligament) are the players on the sidelines for Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes.
