Hertha Berlin vs VfB Stuttgart Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

After a year away from the Bundesliga, Stuttgart returns and will have a very tough task when they travel to Hertha Berlin on Saturday to start the 2017/18 season. Hertha were particularly strong at home last season, fueling their run to the Europa League places, so this will be far from the ideal place to start for the visiting side. Hertha played against Hansa Rostock on Monday in the DFB Pokal, and they won 0-2 away thanks to goals from Mitchell Weiser and Vedad Ibisevic in the last five minutes of the match. Meanwhile, Stuttgart got through in the cup by virtue of penalties away to Energie Cottbus. They fell two goals behind inside 30 minutes, but they fought back in the second half with goals from Josip Brekalo and the help of an own goal to eventually progress to the next round. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Hertha and Stuttgart have totally split previous results evenly between them, so this match should lean heavily toward the home side as a result. Hertha Berlin also come off a great sixth place finish last season, so they will be tough to knock off for a freshly promoted Stuttgart team. Still yet, Hertha are at 23/20 to win, and that's positive results given just how good they were at home last season. Hertha to win and both teams to score can further help your odds out by increasing them to 10/3.

Hertha Berlin Preview

Hertha Berlin come off an encouraging campaign last season in which they ended up finishing in sixth place. They could have done much better had it not been for poor away form, but their home form was quite good and earned them a place in the Europa League. On the back of it, they've retained their manager and decided to add a few players in hopes of continuing to push on. The biggest signing was striker Davie Selke, but he will have to do without him for the early stretch.

Hertha Berlin Team News

Pal Dardai will be unable to use goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann, right winger Valentino Lazaro, and strikers Julian Schieber and Davie Selke due to injuries.

VfB Stuttgart Preview

Stuttgart have made it back to the Bundesliga after winning the Bundesliga2 last term. This was done under the stewardship of Hannes Wolf, who only took over in September of last season. They only spent one season away, but it will be hoped that it helped forge them back into the side they were in the mid 2000s. They've bought a few players to try and add to their force including center back Holger Badstuber, goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, and left back Dennis Aogo.

VfB Stuttgart Team News

Wolf will be without center back Holger Badstuber, left backs Emiliano Insua and Dennis Aogo, and right winger Carlos Mane due to injuries.
