Hertha Berlin vs Darmstadt Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Hertha Berlin and Darmstadt will be facing each other at the Olympiastadion on Wednesday evening, with both sides aiming to get back to winning ways in the Bundesliga. Hertha Berlin were lucky to only lose 2-0 on the road at RB Leipzig last time out, as the hosts had an overwhelming 61% ball possession and 16 goal attempts. Pal Dardai’s men conceded a goal in each half and were unable to get on the scoresheet, as they failed to deliver a single shot on target. Darmstadt made a good game against Bayern Munich at the weekend, but they conceded from a free kick and had to settle for a 0-1 home defeat. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Hertha Berlin Preview

Although they have been struggling recently, Hertha Berlin are still enjoying one of the best seasons in history. Hertha find themselves in 4th position in the Bundesliga table tied on 27 points with the 3rd-placed Hoffenheim. However, Hertha Berlin haven’t been at their best of late as they lost each of their last two league fixtures at the hands of Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig. The most worrying fact is that Hertha Berlin have failed to score a single goal in their last two league fixtures, and they looked awful going forward against RB Leipzig at the weekend. The good news is that Hertha Berlin still have one of the meanest defences in the Bundesliga, conceding just 16 goals in 15 league games. Furthermore, Hertha Berlin can count on their home form ahead of this tie as they have won six of their seven home fixtures in the Bundesliga this season. In addition, Hertha have scored at least two goals in six of their seven home league games so far this season. Head-to-head, Hertha Berlin have won two of their three meetings with Darmstadt in all competitions. A player to watch here is Vedad Ibisevic, as the 32-year-old striker is currently leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 8 goals in his 14 league appearances.

Darmstadt Preview

On the contrary, Darmstadt are the worst team in the Bundesliga at the moment in time, having won just two of their opening 15 league fixtures. They come into this clash off the back of an eight-game losing streak across all competitions, including a narrow 0-1 home defeat against Bayern Munich at the weekend. Scoring goals has been Darmstadt’s main issue throughout this Bundesliga campaign as they hold the worst offensive record in the division, scoring just 11 goals in 15 league fixtures. Darmstadt have only scored three goals in their last seven games in the Bundesliga. Antonio-Mirko Colak has been Darmstadt’s most prolific player in front of goal so far this season, as the 23-year-old striker is leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 3 goals in his 12 league appearances. Their away form has been awful, as Darmstadt are the only Bundesliga team who failed to pick up at least one point from their seven away trips so far this season. In addition, Darmstadt have only scored four goals and conceded 18 in their seven away games in the Bundesliga. The good news is that Darmstadt picked up a 1-2 win on the road at Hertha Berlin on their most recent trip to the Olympiastadion.

Hertha Berlin Team News

Mitchell Weiser, Nils-Jonathan Korber, Ondrej Duda and Alexander Baumjohann are all doubts. However, Sebastian Langkamp and John Anthony Brooks are both missing through injury.

Darmstadt Team News

Immanuel Hohn and Felix Platte are both missing through injury, but Alexander Milosevic is a doubt. The good news is that Anis Ben-Hatira is back in training following his ankle injury.

Betting Predictions and Tips

I don’t think that Darmstadt are capable of getting a positive result in this trip, as they have been terrible on the road so far this season. On the flip side, Hertha Berlin have won six of their seven home fixtures in the Bundesliga, scoring at least two goals in each of these. This having been said, I’m backing Hertha Berlin to grab all three points and to keep a clean sheet in this match.
