Hellas Verona vs Sampdoria Match Prediction

By William Hall

Hellas Verona looks for its first win of the season at the fifth attempt on Wednesday night when they play host to Sampdoria in Serie A match day five. Hellas Verona lost out to Roma on Saturday by a score of 3-0, while Sampdoria got a point from a 2-2 draw away to Torino on Sunday. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Sampdoria have rarely lost to Hellas Verona in the relatively limited history between the two sides. One of the two losses was actually in a friendly before the season started, so Samp should feel confident of a result in this match. They have obtained at least a draw in 13 of the 15 matches played, so that looks a real possibility. Sampdoria are the team with a semblance of form about them as well, so it should be a slam dunk in their favour.

Hellas Verona Preview

Hellas Verona have began the season in very troubling form so far. One point from four matches has them planted near the bottom of the table, and that is a position that they are very likely to be fighting from for much of the season. They've showed a real lack of quality so far, and only managed a draw in a match where they would have had a real shot at a result. They have had a fairly difficult schedule so far, as they have faced Napoli, Fiorentina, and Roma, but they have not looked good in those defeats. They were hammered at home 0-5 by Fiorentina after the international break ended. They carried that form over into Saturday's 3-0 loss away to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. Roma were rampant in the match, keeping the ball 70% of the time, while taking tons of shots at goal and earning a number of corner kicks. They would fall behind on 22 minutes to Radja Nainggolan's goal. They would concede a second in the 33rd minute as Edin Dzeko scored, and that score would hold up until Dzeko scored his second in the 61st minute to seal the points. Just when things had been bad already, they complicated matters further with a red card. Defender Samuel Souprayen picked up a second yellow card, and they luckily didn't concede any further as they did against Fiorentina the week prior. They've scored just once thus far, through Giampaolo Pazzini, in their four matches, and that is something they will definitely need to work on going forward.

Hellas Verona Team News

The aforementioned Souprayen will miss out here after receiving his marching order on Saturday. Joining him due to injuries are center back Matteo Bianchetti, center midfielder Franco Zuculini, left back Gian Felicioli, and wingers Alessio Cerci and Mohamed Fares.

Sampdoria Preview

Sampdoria come into match day five just behind the European places in seventh place with eight points from three matches so far in Serie A play. If the season were to end today, you'd have to believe that they would be very happy with that kind of finish. It doesn't seem like much, but that would be a big improvement over the last several years. And their start has been a very good one due to the fact that the lost key young attacker Patrik Schick in the transfer window. They have done well thus far, and are one of the unbeaten teams remaining in the league with two wins and a draw. They had back-to-back wins against the likes of Benevento and Fiorentina back before the international break, and in their first match back they did a good job to grab a point away to high-flying Torino on Sunday. It was an action-packed first half that saw them take a 1st minute lead through Daniel Zapata. However, the fluid, strong Torino attack hit back with goals in the 13th and 14th minute to take the lead through Daniele Baselli and Andrea Beloti. Sampdoria hit back after 34 minutes through veteran Italian striker Fabio Quagliarella. That would be the end of the scoring on the day in what was a very even contest. Quagliarella now has four goals to his name this season after just three matches played, a very good rate.

Sampdoria Team News

Left back Dodo remains out as he looks to recover from his broken arm. They will have some problems in that area here as they saw fellow left back Nicola Murru leave early with an injury on Sunday.
