Hearts vs St.Johnstone Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Hearts come into the game after a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Celtic in the recent league match. First-half goals from Odsonne Edouard, Dedryck Boyata, and Mousa Dembele put Brendan Rodgers’ outfit in a commanding position. Kyle Lafferty pulled one back in the second half by capitalising on a mistake, but this did not lead to a comeback. St Johnstone picked up a first win of 2018 by beating lower league Albion Rovers 4-0 in the Scottish FA Cup. A hat-trick from Christopher Kane and a goal from Kyle McLean put Tommy Wright’s team into the fifth round of the competition.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Hearts may have picked up just one win in the last six SPL things, but the club are rather strong in matches at the Tynecastle stadium. Despite St Johnstone being unbeaten in the last four away games, it has to be remembered that away games against Hearts have not been a happy hunting ground for St Johnstone. Over the last five away games against Hearts, St Johnstone have claimed just one win. I would choose a win for Hearts.

The poor defensive record of Hearts has led to goals in the last two league matches. However, the team have been able to establish a strong home record owing to conceding just eight goals in 12 home matches. Even Celtic have not been able to better this defensive record at home. I would back under 2.5 goals.

Hearts Preview

Hearts may have suffered a disappointing loss against Celtic, but the team’s overall form has been good even now. It is not a surprise that Hearts have been able to remain in the top six and challenge for the European places. The appointment of Craig Levein has been a crucial factor behind this status, as the manager has made the club competitive once again. Steven Naismith is the biggest addition to the squad in this January transfer window, as the 31-year-old has been brought in on a loan deal from Norwich. The departure of Esmael Goncalves is a major blow to the club’s competitiveness going forward. Kyle Lafferty is the club’s top scorer with eight goals.

Hearts Team News

Rory Currie is the only player on the sidelines for this match.

St.Johnstone Preview

The victory over struggling League One outfit Albion Rovers is the only win for St Johnstone over the last five matches. The club went on a spree of three consecutive away victories – including a 3-1 success over Rangers, but they have been far from convincing in this period. St Johnstone are out of the top six, despite a strong start to the campaign. Now, the club are in a position of having scored the lowest number of goals in the SPL 2017-18 campaign so far. Meanwhile, they have also conceded a remarkable 33 goals. Steve MacLean and Michael O’Halloran are the top scorers with five goals each.

St.Johnstone Team News

Brian Easton (knee) is the only player on the sidelines for St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright.
