Hearts vs Motherwell Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Hearts have had a tremendous start to 2018 after picking up a 3-0 win over Hamilton in the latest SPL match. After a goalless first half, Hearts were able to secure a comprehensive victory through goals from Ryan Callahan, Manuel Milinkovic, and Dario Zanatta. Meanwhile, Motherwell picked up a second consecutive 2-0 win of 2018 after beating Ross County at home. Harry Souttar’s own goal just before half-time was decisive, and Motherwell quickly built on this advantage with Curtis Main scoring immediately after half-time.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Curtis Main had a brilliant start to his Motherwell career after scoring on his league debut for the club. The striker had made the switch from Portsmouth on a free transfer. A replacement for Louis Moult was of the highest priority for Motherwell. This match is likely to head down the route of the home team, as Craig Levein has made Hearts extremely tough to beat at the new Tynecastle stadium. After having started 2018 with wins over Hibernian and Hamilton, Hearts are also on a strong surge of form. I would go with a Hearts win.

Motherwell have struggled at scoring goals on the road. Even in the last five games against Hearts, Motherwell have only come up with three goals. Hearts have turned Tynecastle stadium into a fortress by conceding only one goal in the last six home matches. I would back a game that witnesses under 2.5 goals.

Hearts Preview

Hearts started 2018 by progressing into the fifth round of the FA Cup. Hibernian had to be overcome with a narrow 1-0 win, but the comprehensive victory over Hamilton has to be the most impressive result for Hearts since the victory over Celtic in the middle of December. Hearts have started vying a spot in the top four and it is not surprising considering that the team are the third best in the table in terms of recent form. Hearts have picked up 12 points, only one behind Celtic, in the last six matches. Hearts forward Kyle Lafferty leads the scoring charts at the club with seven goals in 21 games.

Hearts Team News

Hearts have to overcome Rory Currie (lateral ligament damage) and Ashley Smith-Brown (groin) being unavailable due to injury.

Motherwell Preview

A run of just one victory since November led to Motherwell dropping out of the top six places at the end of 2017, but they have quickly regained this place after a brilliant start to 2018. The progress in the Scottish FA Cup has also been realised with the team managing a comfortable 2-0 win over Hamilton. However, the home win over Ross County happens to be a crucial result. Now, Motherwell face the difficult task of transferring the momentum built up by these back-to-back wins into two away matches. Motherwell are not back at the Fir Park until the start of February. Former striker Louis Moult remains as Motherwell’s top scorer this season with eight goals.

Motherwell Team News

Motherwell manager Steve Robinson does not have any players on the sidelines coming into the match.
