Hannover 96 vs Schalke 04 Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

After opening round wins last weekend, both Hannover and Schalke look to keep up the good work and build a platform to haul themselves into the top six.  Hannover got a 0-1 win away to Mainz last Saturday, after getting a goal from Martin Harnik on 73 minutes.  It was very much a smash and grab, but the points are all that mattered in the end!  Schalke, meanwhile, got a very impressive win at home to RB Leipzig 2-0.  Nabil Bentaleb got on the score sheet just a minute ahead of half time with a penalty.  Yehven Konoplyanka, then, continued his hot streak with a goal on 73 minutes to seal the points up.

Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Schalke won both matches two seasons back by a score of 3-1 when these sides met.  Much has changed since then, though, so it's not a great thing to look at.  However, Schalke have nearly doubled Hannover's record of wins, so Schalke should be favored despite being the away team.  They were not good from home last term, but they look different to us right now and should be trusted to beat a promoted team.

Yehven Konoplyanka has been on fire so far this season, and a goal for him at anytime can get you 13/5 odds.

Schalke to get the win here is at 23/20.

Hannover 96 Preview

Hannover's return to the Bundesliga was a success last week, as they followed up their DFB Pokal win with an away win at Mainz.  Despite the quality of Mainz right now, a win on opening day away from home in your first match back is a massive success, and it will drive Hannover into this match.  A lot of confidence will be had here, but they will have to be careful to not be overconfident.  In that victory, they narrowly held on and stole the points, effectively.  It will be a tough ask to do the same against Schalke, who also look like a much improved side.

Hannover 96 Team News

Hannover will be missing left midfielder Edgar Prib, right wingers Uffe Bech and Noah Bazee, and left back Miiko Albornoz due to injuries.

Schalke 04 Preview

Schalke's opening day win at home to RB Leipzig could prove to be the catalyst for them to make an attempt to finish in the top five or six this season.  Last season, they could rarely be trusted in matches, but they are starting to get their feet under them by finding some consistency in their play.  Domenico Tedesco is doing it by going with players in form, and by picking players that fit the chemistry of his team, rather than relying upon names only.  It's worked so far, and they should be confident of getting a win in this match.

Schalke 04 Team News

Schalke will be without right midfielder Alessandro Schopf due to a knee injury.  Winger Sidney Sam remains away on personal leave, while defensive midfielder Benjamin Stambouli will serve out the balance of his suspension.
