Hamburger SV vs Darmstadt Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Darmstadt will be aiming to build on their recent victory in the Bundesliga when they travel to the Volksparkstadion to take on Hamburger SV on Saturday afternoon. Hamburger SV were beaten 2-1 on the road at Werder Bremen last time out, despite the fact they took an early lead through Michael Gregoritsch. On the flip side, Darmstadt won 2-1 at home over Schalke 04 thanks to goals from Mario Vrancic and Jerome Gondorf. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Hamburger SV should have no problems in picking up all three points in this one as they have won their last four home league games, scoring two goals in three of these. On the contrary, Darmstadt are the worst away team in the Bundesliga, having lost all of their 14 league trips so far this season. I’m not expecting a high-scoring affair here, but I’m backing Hamburg to grab all three points.

Hamburger SV Preview

Hamburger SV have enjoyed a decent run of form between the beginning of March to the beginning of April, but they showed some signs of weakness recently. They have lost two of their last three games in the Bundesliga, conceding at least two goals in each of these. Escape artists Hamburg still find themselves in a perilous situation as they currently sit in 14th spot in the standings, just one point clear of the drop zone. Hamburg have struggled at both ends of the field throughout this Bundesliga campaign, but their biggest problems have been at the back. They have conceded 53 goals in 29 rounds, which is the second worst defensive record in the division. Actually, they have conceded at least once in eight of their last ten games across all competitions. However, Hamburg can count on their recent home form ahead of this clash as they have won all of their last four home league fixtures, scoring two goals in three of these. Furthermore, Hamburger picked up a 0-2 victory over Darmstadt in the reverse fixture. Michael Gregoritsch, Nicolai Muller and Bobby Wood have been Hamburger’s most in-form players throughout the season, as they bagged 15 goals and ten assists between them.

Darmstadt Preview

Meanwhile, Darmstadt have finally returned to winning ways in the Bundesliga thanks to a narrow 2-1 home victory over Schalke 04 last weekend. Mario Vrancic gave Darmstadt the lead at halftime, but the visitors managed to level the game in the 75th minute despite the fact they have missed a penalty kick just before the hour mark. However, Darmstadt were lucky to snatch all three points as Jerome Gondorf scored the winner in the stoppage time. Darmstadt’s form in the Bundesliga over the past two months has seen them losing seven of their last nine league outings. Despite the recent win, Darmstadt still sit on the bottom place of the Bundesliga table with just 18 points under their belts after 29 rounds, already 14 points behind safety. This means that anything other than a victory in this clash will seal their place into the 2.Bundesliga. Darmstadt are the worst away team in the division, as they failed to collect a single point from their 14 league trips so far this season. They have lost all of their 14 away league games and have only scored six goals in the process. The good news is that Darmstadt picked up a 1-2 victory at Hamburger SV in their sole visit to the Volksparkstadion.

Hamburger SV Team News

Mats Kohlert, Andreas Hirzel, Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Johan Djourou and Bobby Wood are all doubts, but Nicolai Muller and Albin Ekdal are both missing through injury. The good news is that Rene Adler and Nabil Bahoui are both back in training.
