Guingamp vs Rennes Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Guingamp will look to get back to winning ways in Ligue 1 when they welcome Rennes at the Stade du Roudourou on Saturday evening. Guingamp only managed a 1-1 home draw against Toulouse prior to the International break, despite the fact that Marcus Thuram gave them the lead in the first minute of the game. Meanwhile, Rennes lost 0-1 at home at the hands of Caen, with their defender Ramy Bensebaini scoring an own-goal just after the half hour. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Both teams have endured a disappointing start to the season and both will look to get back to winning ways in Ligue 1 on Saturday. I’m going with Guingamp to grab all three points here as they have been a strong side on home soil over the past month and a half, conceding just once in their last three league games. Furthermore, Guingamp have only lost once in their last four meetings with Rennes across all competitions, scoring at least two goals in two of these.

Guingamp Preview

Guingamp have endured a mixed run of form in this early part of the new Ligue 1 campaign, registering four defeats, three wins and one draw in their opening eight league fixtures. After a disappointing 3-1 defeat on the road at Bordeaux three weeks ago, Guingamp only managed a 1-1 home draw against Toulouse prior to the International break. They only sit in 11th in the standings tied on ten points with the 10th-placed Nice, just five points behind the top five. Guingamp have struggled to find the back of the net in this early part of the season, scoring just nine goals in eight league games. Jimmy Briand, Mustapha Diallo and Marcus Thuram have been Guingamp’s most prolific players in front of goal so far this season, having scored two goals each. The good news is that Guingamp are now back on home soil where they are undefeated in three league games, conceding just once in the process. Overall, Guingamp have only lost two of their last nine home fixtures across all competitions, while winning six in this term. The most worrying fact is that Guingamp are winless in their last three home meetings with Rennes in Ligue 1, scoring just once.

Guingamp Team News

Jonathan Martins Pereira is the only doubtful player for Guingamp ahead of this clash.

Rennes Preview

Rennes, on the flip side, have been one of the worst teams in Ligue 1 in this early part of the season, winning just once in their opening eight league outings. Their only victory of the season was an impressive 1-3 away triumph over Marseille, but they now enter the fray on the back of a three-game winless streak. This leaves Rennes only in 15th in the league table tied on six points with Amiens and Dijon, just one point clear of the drop zone. Rennes managed a decent tally of eleven goals in eight games, but their defence has let them down. They have conceded 13 goals so far this season, which is one of the worst defensive records in the division. Benjamin Bourigeaud and Firmnin Mubele Ndombe have both been in fine shape throughout this Ligue 1 campaign, as the pair bagged six goals and two assists between them. Rennes looked decent on the road recently, registering a 1-3 win at Marseille along with a 2-2 away draw at Saint-Etienne in their most recent league trip. Furthermore, Rennes are undefeated in their last three visits to the Stade du Roudourou, scoring at least two goals in each of these.

Rennes Team News

Kermit Erasmus, Sanjin Prcic, Yoann Gourcuff, Jordan Tell and Edson Andre Sitoe Mexer are all doubts, but Ismaila Sarr is out through an ACL injury.
