Granada vs Osasuna Match Prediction

By Charlotte Louise Bushell

Granada’s return from the winter break was met with a horrific performance in the 5-0 thrashing from Real Madrid, as Granada players did not appear to have woken up from their holidays yet. Isco scored a brace, while Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Casemiro scored a goal each to inflict this heavy defeat. Osasuna showed incredible character to come back thrice against Valencia in the 3-3 draw. Oriol Riera and Roberto Torres helped Osasuna equalise twice, and Carlos Clerc’s late equaliser secured a solitary point for the relegation-threatened outfit.

Granada Preview

Granada have recently managed to secure their first win of the season in the home match against top-three chasing Sevilla. Apart from this result, the club has had little joy throughout the campaign. The heavy defeat against Real Madrid means that Granada now have the worst defensive record in the division after having conceded 38 goals in the 17 matches. They have fared slightly better at scoring goals away from home, but the overall record (15 goals in 17 games) still makes for a bad reading with an average of less than a goal per game this season.

Osasuna Preview

Osasuna’s solitary victory this season came towards the end of October against Eibar. Since then, the team has taken just two points from a possible 27. The team are rock bottom of the table, but they surprisingly do not hold the record for least number of goals scored or the most number of goals conceded. They are not far away from topping both records, as they have conceded a remarkable 14 goals in the last five matches while scoring four in return. The comeback draw against Valencia in the last match does provide them with some amount of confidence.

Granada Team News

Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez and Victorien Angban are unavailable due to international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations. Isaac Cuenca (hamstring), Matthieu Saunier (thigh), Dimitri Foulquier (hamstring), and Luis Martins (ankle) are the likely absentees for Granada.

Osasuna Team News

Didier Digard (cruciate ligament) and Miguel Flano (meniscus) are out for the season. Emmanuel Riviere, Fausto, Fran Merida, Javier Flano, David García Zubiria, and Juan Rafael Fuentes.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The six-pointer between the two teams is likely to be filled with a lot of goals especially considering the poor defensive record of both teams. The last five league matches involving Osasuna have witnessed more than two goals scored by the opposition. Even though Granada average less than a goal per game, the defensive horror show from Osasuna is likely to open up several opportunities. Osasuna’s last game against a relegation threatened opponent, Sporting Gijon, saw a total of four goals. In the same vein, I would back this fixture to produce a total of more than 2.5 goals.

Granada’s home form has been decent of late with just two defeats in the last five games. Osasuna have lost three away games on the bounce, while they have also never won at the Nuevo Los Carmenes. I would back Granada to only get their second win of the season.
