Girona vs Villarreal Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Girona come into this match on the back of a rollercoaster 3-3 draw with Celta de Vigo in the last game. Pione Sisto provided Celta with the lead after eight minutes, but Girona were ahead through two quick goals from Portu and Christian Stuani. The game was not over, as it was Celta’s turn to take the lead through Maxi Gomez and Daniel Wass. However, there was late drama when Juanpe scored with four minutes left to get a point for Girona. Villarreal enjoyed a first win in four games, as they beat Eibar 3-0 at home. Cedric Bakambu came up with a hat-trick to register Villarreal’s first goals since the win over Deportivo Alaves.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The home games were identified as a key element towards helping Girona survive in the division, but the team has lost the last two home matches without scoring a goal. However, the team comes into the game against Villarreal knowing that the Yellow Submarines are rather poor on the road. Villarreal’s only away goals this season were against strugglers Deportivo Alaves. Girona have been decent in front of goal with six goals in seven, and I would back the home team to come out successful in this game.

Villarreal have failed to score in four out of their last five away games in all competitions. Even though Girona have conceded 11 so far this season, only one of the last three home games have produced over 2.5 goals. I would expect this game to end up as a low scoring game.

Girona Preview

Girona are winless in almost 2 months of action, but the team has every reasons to be positive. Despite having just made it to the La Liga for the first time in their history, the team has been able to come away with a decent set of results even after mixing up with the big boys like Sevilla and Barcelona. The draw with Celta de Vigo displayed the strong attitude within the squad and this bodes well for the team that will soon be facing Villarreal and Real Madrid in the league.

Girona Team News

Pedro Alcala (ankle) and Marc Muniesa (hamstring) are the players unavailable for Girona.

Villarreal Preview

Villarreal may already be unhappy with the sight of an away game, as the club has been going through a difficult spell on the road. Even though the team has suffered just one defeat in the last three away games, their overall form on the road has been extremely poor with four blanks in five. In contrast, the team are unbeaten in the four home matches in all competitions. Manager Javier Calleja will be aware that the club have to improve away form in order to once again qualify for the Europa League. Even after this mediocre start to the season, Villarreal have not left sight of the top six places. Cedric Bakambu is the leading scorer at the club with five goals in the league.

Villarreal Team News

Andres Fernandez (cruciate ligament), Jaume Costa (calf), Ruben Semedo (illness), Bruno Soriano (leg), and Adrian Marin (knee) are the players unavailable for the Villarreal.
