Girona vs Las Palmas Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Girona resumed their La Liga campaign with a 2-1 loss against Valencia at the Mestalla. Girona were able to silence the home crowd with former Valencia midfielder Portu heading in after just eight minutes. However, parity was restored when Ramalho put the ball into his own net while Dani Parejo’s penalty just after half-time completed the comeback for the hosts. Las Palmas went five games without a win in all competitions after a 2-1 loss against Eibar. Jonathan Viera’s 32nd minute penalty provided the opening goal, but Las Palmas were sent to a 13th league defeat in a four-minute spell. Fabian Orellana and Sergi Enrich came up with goals to complete a brilliant comeback for the away team. Las Palmas were knocked out of the Copa del Rey after a 5-1 aggregate defeat against Valencia.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Las Palmas have had a strong record over Girona after winning the last five without exception, but they head into this game on the back of a very poor run. Even though Girona have also been beaten in the last two games, home advantage places the advantage upon Machin’s team. A Girona win seems likely in this game.

Las Palmas have had a poor run in the league, but the team has done well in front of goal of late with goals in three out of the last five games in all competitions. However, Las Palmas have been unable to score in four out of the last five away games, while Girona have been relatively good at the back in recent matches. There is a greater likelihood of seeing a clean sheet for Girona.

Girona Preview

Girona’s confident run may have come to an abrupt halt with the team losing back-to-back losses. The end of 2017 was not in the best possible fashion and they have begun 2018 in a similar way. However, the team are still capable of pushing into the top 10, with ninth-placed Leganes only one point ahead. In fact, Girona are only five points behind the Europa League qualification places and such lofty positions were not expected from a team that was promoted to the top division only in the summer. Christian Stuani is the club’s top scorer with nine league goals.

Girona Team News

Girona manager Pablo Machin will be without Marc Muniesa (ankle), Pedro Alcala (ankle), and José Aurelio Suarez (shoulder) due to injury.

Las Palmas Preview

Las Palmas remain as one of the favourites for relegation this season, as the club are struggling in the 19th spot – even with the season past the midway mark. Las Palmas briefly appeared to be out of relegation trouble with the club suffering just one loss over a four-game period, but the team has now lost back-to-back matches. The exit from the Copa del Rey, though, could be a blessing in disguise for the team. Alejandro Galvez and Jairo Samperio are some of the key additions to the squad so far in this January transfer window, while manager Paco Jemez remains keen on bringing in Jese Rodriguez from Stoke City. Loic Remy continues to lead the scoring charts at Las Palmas with five goals so far.

Las Palmas Team News

Sergei Samper (ankle), Michel Macedo (leg), and Pedro Bigas (knee) are the players unavailable for Las Palmas manager Paco Jemez.
