Georgia vs Wales Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Wales will look to close the gap at the top of the World Cup qualifying group D table when they travel to the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena to take on Georgia on Friday afternoon. Georgia managed a creditable 1-1 away draw at Austria last time out, with Valeriane Gvilia scoring the opener after just eight minutes. On the other hand, Wales picked up a hard-fought 0-2 away win over Moldova a month ago, with Hal Robson-Kanu and Aaron Ramsey scoring the goals in the last ten minutes of the game. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Georgia are yet to win in this group, while Wales haven’t lost a single game so far. Three points are mandatory for Wales, while Georgia are only playing for pride because they are already out of the race for the World Cup 2018 next summer. I’m backing Wales to win, but I’m not expecting too many goals as both sides have been involved in high-scoring affairs of late.

Wales to win at odds 7/10

Under 2.5 goals at odds 8/15

Georgia have not conceded a goal in 60% of their last 10 games played

Georgia have conceeded only 3 goals in their last 3 games against Wales

Wales have conceeded only 3 goals in their last 3 games against Georgia

Georgia Preview

Georgia had a terrible start to this World Cup qualifying campaign as they are yet to win a single game in eight rounds. They drew five and lost three of their eight group fixtures, collecting just five points in this term. The good news is that Georgia are currently on a five-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, scoring at least once in each of these. The Georgians currently sit second from the bottom in the group D table are mathematically edged out in this group already. Their home form has been decent as they have only lost two of their last nine home fixtures across all competitions, and are currently on a three-game unbeaten streak. They are winless in four home qualifiers throughout this campaign, but the good news is they scored at least once in each of these. Actually, the Georgians have netted at least one goal in each of their last ten home fixtures across all competitions. The most impressive thing is that Georgia are undefeated in four meetings with Wales across all competitions, winning three in the process. Georgia managed a decent tally of eight goals in eight games throughout this campaign, including three from their topscorer Valeri Qazaishvili.

Georgia Team News

Georgia have no fresh injury concerns ahead of this clash.

Wales Preview

Wales, on the other hand, are unbeaten in eight group fixtures at the moment, but five of these have ended in draws. Their most recent two qualifiers have ended as victories over Austria and Moldova, conceding none in the process. Wales find themselves in second spot in the group D table with 14 points under their belts after eight games, already four points adrift of the current leaders Serbia. Keeping the ball out of their own net has been Wales’ main secret for their good performance throughout this WC qualifying campaign as they hold the best defensive record in the division with just 5 goals conceded in eight games. At the other end of the field, Wales managed a decent tally of 12 goals, including four from their topscorer Gareth Bale. Away from home, Wales are unbeaten in four World Cup qualifiers, but three of these have ended in draws. Actually, they were on a four-game winless streak across all competitions prior to their 0-2 victory over Moldova in their most recent trip. Overall, they have only won two of their last ten away games, including Euro 2016 fixtures.

Wales Team News

Coach Chris Coleman named Gareth Bale in his squad last week, but Real Madrid have decided to send Bale for tests because of fresh concerns over a calf injury.
