Georgia vs Ireland Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Ireland will look to extend their unbeaten start to this World Cup qualifying campaign when they travel to the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi to take on Georgia on Saturday afternoon. Georgia fought back from two-goals down to secure a 2-2 away draw against Moldova thanks to two second-half goals from Giorgi Merebashvili and Valeri Qazaishvili. On the other hand, Ireland managed to snatch a point from their 1-1 home draw against Austria last time out, with Jonathan Walters scoring the equaliser with just five minutes to go. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Although they looked poor throughout this World Cup qualifying campaign, Georgia have been a tough nut to crack on home soil over the past few years, losing just two of their last eight home fixtures across all competitions. On the other hand, Ireland have endured a mixed run of form on the road over the past three years. Ireland have more quality within their squad and they should be able to secure a positive result here, but I’m expecting a low-scoring affair. The last two meetings between these two sides have seen few than two goals scored.

Georgia Preview

Georgia did well to beat Latvia and Saint Kitts and Nevis in two friendly games this year, but they are still searching for their first victory in this World Cup qualifying campaign. They have lost three and draw three of their six group fixtures so far, scoring just six goals in the process. Valeri Qazaishvili has been Georgia’s most dangerous player in front of goal throughout this campaign, having helped the team with two goals in his six appearances. Actually, he contributed to Georgia’s comeback against Moldova last time out, scoring the equaliser with just 20 minutes to go. The Georgians currently sit in 5th position in the group D table with just three points under their belts after six rounds, already nine points off the second-placed Ireland. Georgia’s home form over the past two months has been a complete mixed bag with four defeats, four wins and two draws in their last ten home games across all competitions. They have won the last two home fixtures, but the bad news is that they have suffered defeats in each of their three home meetings with Ireland, conceding a goal in each of these.

Georgia Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Georgia ahead of this clash.

Ireland Preview

Ireland’s recent form across all competitions has been a complete mixed bag with two defeats, two draws and one win in their last five games. However, the Irish have enjoyed a strong World Cup qualifying campaign, winning three and drawing three of their six group games. Ireland currently sit in second spot in the group D table tied on 12 points with the current leaders Serbia, who have a better goal difference. Furthermore, their recent away form has been solid as they beat Moldova and Austria and drew with Serbia in their three World Cup qualifiers. Martin O’Neill’s men should feel confident ahead of this tie as they have won all of their eight meetings with Georgia across all competitions, scoring at least two goals in six of these. Furthermore, the Irish have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four games against Georgia. James McClean has been Ireland’s most prolific player throughout this qualifying campaign, having scored three goals in his six appearances. Seamus Coleman has scored the winner in Ireland’s 1-0 home victory over Georgia in the reverse fixture, but the captain got injured a few months ago and he is still on the sidelines.

Ireland Team News

Jeff Hendrick and James McCarthy are both missing through injury, but Jon Walters is a doubt.
