Genk vs Gent Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Genk and Gent will be facing each other at the Luminus Arena on Thursday evening for their Europa League round of 16 decider, although Genk secured an impressive 5-2 away victory in the first leg last week. Ruslan Malinovsky gave Genk the lead in the 21st minute, but Samuel Kalu leveled the game for Gent six minutes later. However, Genk played sensationally in the last 15 minutes of the first half, having scored three goals through Omar Colley, Mbwana Samata, and Jere Uronen. Kalifa Coulibaly pulled one back for Gent just after the half-hour mark, but Jeremy Perbet missed from the spot seven minutes later, and that proved to be crucial as Genk scored another one in the 72nd minute with Mbwana Samata completing his brace. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT.

Betting Predictions and Tips

I’m backing Gent to go all-in attack in this one as they have nothing to lose. They should feel confident ahead of this trip, as they have picked up victories in three of their last five visits to the Luminus Arena. I’m also expecting Genk to score here as they have won the last two meetings with Gent, scoring seven goals in the process.

Genk Preview

Genk followed up their excellent 2-5 first-leg victory on the road at Gent with another impressive 0-4 away win at Westerlo in the Jupiler at the weekend, in the final round of the regular season. However, Genk finished only in 8th spot in the Jupiler table and are now participating only for Europa League play-offs. Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for Genk this season, but they really struggled at the other end of the field. Genk have conceded 35 goals in 30 rounds this season, which is one of the worst defensive records in top ten. Mbwana Samata and Nikolaos Karelis have also been in fine shape throughout their Jupiler League campaign, as the pair bagged 19 goals and five assists between them. These two players have also played a vital part in Genk’s performances throughout their Europa League campaign, scoring seven goals between them. Genk have enjoyed a decent run of form across all competitions over the past month, losing only at the hands of Anderlecht in their last ten competitive fixtures. On home soil, Genk are currently on a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions, winning three and drawing one in the process. Genk can count on their home form in Europe ahead of this clash, as they have won all seven European home fixtures this season, conceding just once in this term.

Gent Preview

After their heavy 2-5 defeat at the hands of Genk last week in the Europa League, Gent bounced back with a comfortable 3-0 home victory over KV Mechelen in the Jupiler League at the weekend. Gent have been scoring plenty of goals recently, as they found the net at least twice in each of their last five games across all competitions. They finished in 4th position in the regular season and are now involved in the play-offs for a Champions League spot. Gent managed an impressive tally of 45 goals in 30 rounds, which is one of the best offensive records in the division. Away from home, Gent have only won one of their last eight games across all competitions, but they are currently on a five-game unbeaten streak. The good news is that Gent have picked up victories in three of their last five visits to the Luminus Arena, scoring at least two goals in three of these. The most worrying fact is that Gent have only won two of their five away European fixtures. They need to win by a three-goal margin to qualify for the next stage of the competition, but the bad news is that Gent have only scored four goals on the road against Shkendija this season.
